tiles are all done. came out awesome. took almost as long to do the edge cutting as it did to lay the whole floor down.

now i have to do the rubber edge molding next. i bough four 20foot rolls with the self adhesive backing on it. i am quite sure this is going to be a complete pain in the ***. i have them stretched out on the floor to straighten them out from being rolled up. should be good in the am.

they're installing the cabinets monday morning. i'll take some pics when it's done. i'm kicking my self for not taking some before and afters.

anybody got any tips for installing the rubber base molding?

Yep O bought mine in 4 foot strips they were easier to use. Also i bought the pre bent corners. I used the caulk adhesive they recommended. Make your cuts with a utility knife and something straight on top of a peice of wood. I used my small metal construction level to make the straight cuts.

where did you get the pre bent corners? i can't find them anywhere. lowes sells the molding in 4 foot strips. i am going to try that route this time. the 20 foot strips with the self adhesive turned out to be a disaster. the four foot strips are much easier to work with i'm sure. i just need to know where i can find the pre bent corners. it's really difficult to get the straight stuff to bend like that and stay put.

on another note, i actually got to compare the racedeck tile side by side with my sam's club tile. the racedeck is definately a superior product. it's thicker and appears more heavy duty. however, is it worth paying double for? i don't know. time will tell. i can't imagine in anything less than a commercial application that it will make any difference at all.

the only thing i have noticed so far is some buckling with the tiles. it is mostly the black tiles in the very first row at the front of the garage. it is definately heat related and happens every time the garage door is up and the east sun hits it. i did trim the edges a little close to the walls, so i am going to pop the outside edge tiles up and cut off a 1/4 inch or so to give the floor some expansion room and see if that remedies the problem. i can only assume that my tiles are too close to the wall as i threw a black tile out in the driveway and it did not buckle at all. i guess the only other potential problem is that the black tiles are becoming superheated due to the color and the grey tiles are staying cool and not allowing any expansion. guess we'll see.

Your tiles should not buckle. The Costco tiles are identicle to Race Deck, except the tread pattern. So I a wondering if the Sams stuff is different.

the sam's stuff is definatley different. i looked at them side by side. the sam's tiles are thinner and slightly more pliable. same overall coin pattern on the top and the ventilation pattern on the bottom though. however, the sam's is half the price of the racedeck so i'm not sure if it would have been worth spending double for a residential application. although your costco tiles on sale may have been the ticket. time will tell. one other thing is that the sam's are shiny and the racedeck is not (allegedly they have a line out now called "show" tiles or something like that, that are shiny). i really like the glossy look on the floor.

like i said, i think i cut my tiles too close to the wall and there's not enough room for expansion. my tiles call for 1/2 inch of clearance. i went with about an 1/8th in some spots

i'm not sure what the temps are like where you're at, but my garage is well over 100 degrees in there. it's like a furnace in the summer.

what thickness did you go with, apparently there are two grades?

also, i am having a hard time figuring out the schematic. i am trying to determine how thick the the molding is at the bottom to see how much of a gap i can cover between the wall and tile. i want to maximize that distance to allow for expansion, but i also want to be able to cover it up.

the molding i used that didn't work was over a 1/2 inch. would you mind taking a measurement for me?

also, they only have premolded out corners. what did you do on the in corners?

I went with the thick and 6" the in corners you just butt your base togeather you can take a 90 degree cut out using a utility knife if you wish.

Toe is 1/2 inch from the wall so up to a 1/3 inch space should be fine.
