Looking for a good garage door opener

I'm on my third garage door opener (Genie) and I'm tired of them breaking, motors going, tracks bending and getting out of alignment. I have a two car garage door, so it's big and heavy. I need something sturdy and reliable. Cost is not a factor. Can anyone recommend some good brands and models to look into?

I went with the Craftsman belt-driven opener. It has been great. I leave for work at 4:30am and the old chain-driven opener would wake up everyone in the house. The Craftsman is so quiet that you can barely tell its there. I highly reccommend it and its not very expensive either. Hope this helps.

Liftmaster Elite. We have solid Doug Fir doors that weigh a ton and they lift them up smooth as butter. Very quiet as well. Got both the belt and jack shaft version just in case I install a lift in the future

We have lift masters on all of our doors been working great for 10 years even on the 10X12 doors. Same remote opens them all as well as the gate. No looking for four or five remotes

These small liftmasters can actually lift huge/heavy doors, as its not a matter of the motor, it depends on how the door is balanced. if its a big *** door, you need large springs/drums. We have a 12'x12' door (and a bunch of 8x9's), and we're using the normal liftmaster residential jack shaft opener. If this was a commercial application, they have a medium duty version, does not look as pretty, but its built for a lot more use, not so much the weight, more the abuse of turning it on/off many many times per day. Super quiet, and they have some nice features (electronic deadbolts, battery backup, nice access panels, etc).

Thanks guys, great info! I'm going to look into the liftmaster series. My door is pretty big and heavy, so between that and crappy installations, door openers never lasted. Hopefully the liftmaster will be a long term solution. What's the best way to get a good installation done?

you may look into changing a new door also. some new doors are super light and nearly silent when running. downside is less insulation as they are usually made of plastic composite of some kind.

Go to the Liftmaster site and look for an authorized installer. Our doors are solid wood...very heavy. They open and close buttery smooth.
