Part it out and buy a GT3 or leave it alone and buy a deicated track car. The 997 has a major flaw that you can not fix, the engine is a cheap block the 993 block that the GT3 and all the TT's have is far superior to the 997 block, As well no matter what you do you seem to be carrying alot of extra weight that you can shed on the 997. Just my 2 cents

I think what everyone is trying to say is right now your at a point where if you want to move on to something else, you can if you strip out some of those big-ticket mods, and still be able to get into something new with your pants on.

However, if you do venture further down the mod road, you are well beyond the point of redeeming any further money you put into the car. Its a great car you have built, and I have enjoyed reading your build progress, but to a normal consumer its still "just" (I say that loosely as its a Porsche I would love to have) a 997S.

With that said, it sounds like you do some serious tracking, and so the question presents itself: "how long can the 997S stand up to almost year round track abuse?" To me, it seems a car more dedicated to the track would suit your needs better.

I also see you have developed an affinity for this particular car, so why not keep it indefinitely? It is a sweet machine. The only thing you need to know is that if you progress further down the road with this car, you either need to 1) Prepare to keep it forever as only a select few with see the value that you have in the car or 2) Prepare to lose a lot of money when you go to sell it.

All in all, you seem to be doing quite well at this point in life, and if this is at the top of your "problems list" you are a blessed man! Good luck in whatever you decide.

I'm with you on the block thing, for sure. As for extra weight, I don't know if you're talking about my car in particular (sub box) or the 997S in general. Thanks for the good thought on this. Could be the deciding factor...

Jedidiah,

Thanks for those thoughts too. I think your points about the continued track use are well made. I do have an affinity for this car, but I also look at GT3s and really wish I had one. It's a weird thing I'm not proud of. Sometimes I waffle back and forth on it.

I also have to convince my wife that this isn't stupid, so your thoughts all help there too. She's seen me make this car into what it is. It could be a hard sell.

You're right. Right now I don't have too much else to worry with. I've been working my *** off building a career and company for 6 years and now I can step away for a bit. God is good. I'm blessed beyond...

Also, Jedidiah, I see in your sig (it's kind of hard not to notice) that you have a Malibu logo in there. I sold Malibus for 5 years and have had 3 Wakesetters. Awesome boats. I know everyone involved with the company (or that were a few years ago) and have boarded with most of the big names. Cool.

No way! Very cool to hear. My father and I are very much into watersports. He surfs, while I wakeboard. We have developed a great relationship with the owner of Waterski America in Dallas and now are at the point where we get a new boat at the beginning of each spring.

We are about to order the new LSV for 08. Some of the styling cues are great while others are not, but such is the evolution of design. I don't think there is a better v-drive out there then what Malibu offers in the VLX and LSV.

Out of curiosity, who have you ridden with? Why did you get out of it? Always good to hear from a fellow lake rat.

I've ridden with Cobe Mickacich, Mike Weddington, Shaun Murray, Greg Nelson, Colin Wright, Dean Lavelle, Parks Bonifay... that's all I can remember right now. I got out because work got so intense I didn't have the time for it. Waterski America is a great dealership too. Rock on.

No way! Bro, you haven't just ridden with pros, you have ridden with wakeboarding legends! You must be pretty phenominal on a board to have hung around those guys.

If you ever come to Dallas for a track day, let me know and would be more then happy to trade you a dinner for some "war stories" of riding with the legends. If you make it a weekend, we can even get you out behind a boat for a couple of pulls.

I'm serious about that offer. Would love to make your acquaintence.

Hi Jared,

I was exactly in your spot a few months ago ... C2S vs GT3?? If you know you're going to mod the car, get the GT3 for the following reasons:

1) By the time you're done dumping all the money into mods, you might see the kind of performance you can expect from the GT3 ... and you'll have spent just as much money as you would have on a GT3.

2) All the mods in the world won't get you the stronger engine and gearbox that you get with the GT3, not to mention thinks like LSD, etc.

3) You'll never get your money back on the money you put into mods. Take a $90k car and dump $30k of mods into it, it's still basically worth $90k ignoring depreciation on the car itself.

4) You have warrantee implications with mods, esp. is heavily modified like you'd need to do on the C2S to approach the performance levels of a GT3.

5) GT3 will hold its resale value much better and it's much more exclusive.

These were my rational for getting the GT3. The only problem was finding one, but if you're a little patient you can find them without getting gouged. I still lightly modified my GT3 but only the OEM lightweight flywheel used in the GT3 RS and a cargraphic exhaust, neither of which car needed for the car to still be amazing to drive.

OK. If anyone's interested in a honkin' deal, PM me. I can't swear I'd sell it, but if I DID, I'd be really reasonable on the price. I'd love to see it go (if it goes) to a 6speeder. I'd be able to see someone else loving on her!

This looks to me like a "Can't get there from here". With the modifications you have in your car, a 10 percent cost recovery on trade-in price is wildly optimistic. The track usage is another big negative. Expect well under book price. Keep the car & don't do any more to it.

I have a 997 2S Cabrio with $14K in options & $12K in aftermarket and realize that they will be worth $0 or less at trade-in or resale. I was advised of this before I purchased the car.

Hindsight is usually 20/20, but it seems to me that you didn't look to begin with. It looks like a great car, though, good luck with it.

This guy named Joakin (hope I got the spelling right). He's, as I understand, a coach for pro drivers. He got to drive people around the Nurburgring for BMW during the new M3 launch. Is this the John that has the Synergy car? If so, sorry that I don't know your last name but it's good to see you here. And, if so, I heard you were running something like 2:04s or something after Synergy got thru with it. And, my last 'if so', I'd love to hear your opinion on what I should do because you know my car kind of. Actually, it's at Synergy right now and I'd welcome you to drive it and give me (us even) your opinion on my situation. I don't know enough to know what to do. But, in the end, I know my car gets a GT3 solid out of the Oak Tree. I myself can even do that.

I hope you're the "John" I'm thinking about... otherwise... sorry man!

Jared,

Glad I now know your screen name. I know Joken really well. He is starting the country club track at CMSP. He is not only an instructor, but he is a pro race stud. Not many people know his story but he was one of the best drivers that didn't end up with a factory contract. He won just about everything he ran in growing up. If you ever come to Charlotte, let me know and I will grab him. You have to hear some of his stories. He is very modest, so you have to pull them out of him. Have a good trip.

I highly recommend Synergy...I built my car with parts and support sorting it from Synergy (mostly because I hate to wait and they're busy). I have turned a 2:02 in this car but it's definitely a 2:00 car or better...I'm not sure if I can get it there but it gives me room to grow.

I have some recent build pics and some in car shake down video on YouTube I can post...I don't want to hijack your thread...maybe when this one is done or something.
John,

I thought that was you. I knew that you were the one that kindly offered me a wheel and tire. You're a kind man. So, cool. I've been on this forum a ton. You can see that by my post count. But I've always been in the standard 997 forum.

Anyway, don't worry about hijacking my thread. Give us what chu got, man! I tell you what. I'm constantly surprised at how incredible Randall and Kerrigan at Synergy are. Know what I mean?

Oh, and... referring to my decision to sell or continue to mod, I have the 6 piston brakes too. They're incredible. Mine are aftermarket Brembos though. Steel.

Take care buddy. Glad to 'meet' you on here.

Yeah... he's incredible. Is this Richard???? One time he drove my car at CMP when it was set up by XXX and not Synergy and, if he said it once he said it 10 times, "THIS CAR IS BRUTAL!".

It's got a lot of grunt, see....
