Whats the first mods to a stock gt3 for average track use ?

May be picking up a 2004 gt3 = I was told of many people here at limerock park getting the shocks "re-valve'd "

also, is it worth trying to get a few more HP out of them ? Exhaust and ECU ?

I lost all my linearity of my stock 996tt when upgraded along the way, so need a very predictable street/track car to get to a few events this year. Signing up early to Limerock, Watkins, NH, Canada... : )

Getting a good alignment and some nice track tires would be a logical first step. Try and if you don't like you can invest in new coilovers.

I dont see why your Turbo wasnt linear? IMO on the track you should have always been inside the Turbo's power band so there should have never been that surprising thrust of power when the turbos kick in.

+1 for a good alignment first. Speaking from experience, track then mod, not the other way around. See what you like and what you dont like the first time around, and THEN make the changes from there. Is it too slow in and out of corners (ie. brakes and power), is there too much under/oversteer, body roll (tires, sway bar adjustments, suspension pieces needed for a proper alignment, and holding toe, caster and camber), shaking at high speeds, slow turn in, etc, etc... Track it once (more then once if you can) first. You never know, with an aggressive alignment you may just like the car as is! Good luck! Keep us posted on how we can help!

seats and harnesses...

I added a lightweight flywheel to mine and it has made my track (and street) driving all that much more enjoyable...

+2 to what jenk12m said. You are absolutely correct. Learn the car stock to be able to determine what needs changing.

The only thing I would add to a 996GT3 before or when getting it alligned is adjustable rear toe arms from either TRG, GMC, Tarrett Racing or the cup car arms. It will make the car a lot more stable, easier to allign, better on tires, etc etc. I had my 2005 996Gt3 for over 15K miles, and a LOT of track miles, and never felt the need to do anything else. (I did do the light flywheel eventually, which was nice, but not crucial for enjoyment)

i would say leave stock ... add just little bit of camber

but first MOD would be seats, rollbar and harness

I went with safety first. car is faster than me, so bar, seats harness was first.

+1 The GT3 is way too fast to be tracking for very long without proper safety equipment. 3 point belts and airbags are not enough, IMHO.

Great info guys thanks a bunch ! ! ""but first MOD would be seats, rollbar and harness"" Truly said. Track then Mod. I tracked my turbo first before doing the mods, i appreciated each step. But man, once i started changing turbos from k16, k24, now 28hybrids = i lost all control to vary my power in-between full throttle and have spent much effort trying to resolve that. At this point I am feeling that turbo cars are just more difficult to predict power from and maybe that why most cup cars are NA . . .

My turbos and ecu's are just kicking in wayyy to hard ( i have two ecu programs now, both basically act as full throttle only touching 1/4 way or so down on the pedal )

So at this point, i think i would like to just enjoy attaining a nice stable predictable gt3 NA engine : ) and some gentle mods = safety, alignment, and just get back to enjoying the driving experience !

Couldnt agree more. I'm actually thinking of going back to N/A if i can get into a 997 3 or V8 Vantage for the right price. Great luck!
