You guys are terrible. You know there is this whole price thing too. I can get a brand new Vantage for a 105k. I'd be lucky to find a nice 997 3 for a 120k. Someone please give me a test drive, or at least take me on one!

If you choose the Aston, you definitely got to get these wheels (courtesy of BobbyG's ex-car):

Alex, you're a dealer, you must have an auction license, find me a great deal on a 7 GT3 and i'll do it! Please, please, please...
Power....Beauty....Soul.... Yeh yeh yeh. Awesome sounding cars and so incredibly sexy, but they are ****ing SLOW. You would be going backwards performance wise.

I can get you a GT3. Not a problem. Tell me when your ready, and I will hook you up big time

I think Porsche has the market cornered on "timelessness" with the 911... I will concede that the Aston is a damn good looking car...

all be it one that gets eaten by GT3s at the track...

The Vantage is a great looking car... there was a guy at my last DE day and he was saving for the supercharger kit for it... his complaint was that while the chassis was great... it needs more power.

You cannot go wrong with the GT3 in any aspect -- performance, depreciation, desirability etc etc...

to some degree we are splitting hairs... this is a good dilemma have

good luck!

A little to big for my tastes. I'm actually more for less wheel more tire. I'd most likely go HRE Comp series wheels in 19's.

Ya but honestly Alex, your 2 will make most everything (including a lot of lambos and ferraris) look slow, on the straights and twists! There's just that X factor about Aston's.

That in itself might just be the deciding factor. Honestly when the 7 GT3 sinks into the mid 90's i'll be more than ready! Hey you're going on the Exotics Nor Cal to So Cal run right? Looking forward to our next run.....

... a year and a half from now (after my traffic school clears) Cheers bud!

Definitely agree on the 911 being timeless, and definitely a good dilema. Thing is, i'm not looking to set any records at the track you know? Just looking for something that's going to be a head turner off the track and an adrenaline pumper on it. Just looking for the best of both worlds as you can see with my choices.

Colby,

First, whats wrong with your TT? I don't really see a point in upgrading, I would rather just upgrade the TT. But if you have to change cars, the GT3 is the definite choice. If you want sound and beauty, buy a Ferrari 360. You can't beat this sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PrCqhN_N0E

Nothing wrong with the TT. Just want something, a little more nimble, rear wheel drive, lighter, better sounding, linear, etc...

With that i also want something trackable but reliable. Also the maintenance on Ferraris is outrageous! Although that 360 does sound amazing!

I'm in Richmond. Let me know what works for. I pretty much make my own schedule so I can just meet you.

Good post. I have a vantage and love the car. Your friend is pretty spot on, great chasis, very nice ride w/o bodyroll, simply awesome brakes(better than the 3 and no fade even after a full track day) awesome looks but in a straight line, they sound fast but aren't. Not dogs but not fast. The speed is very linear and steady. I saw R&T had a test car that was .6 faster to 60 and almost a second faster to 100 than the Car and Driver test.
My english connection tells me their mule car ran just over 4 seconds to 60 with 200 cell cats and their sport exhaust, so the potential is there.
I would take the AM over the 996 3 all day. The 997 3 is a wonderful car and, as pointed out, they are pretty different cars with different strenghts and weaknesses. For track work, the 3, for trips and cruising, the AM, for canyon carving they are both quite fun.

One point that has impressed me, I live in a rural mountain area and its all 2 lane canyons and mountain roads to go anywhere. I find I can really enjoy the AM, push the car, pass anything I need to, and revel in the wonderful exhaust note in a plush and beautiful environment AND unlike some of my other cars, not be needing to run way over the speed limit to do so.

The AM is making me a better citizen!!
