996 GT3 vs 997 GT3

First off I searched, I searched!

I am considering building an older 911 into a full interior w/ cage car that I can drive to work (NOT a daily driver though) and track. Before I did that I figured I should consider the obvious choices of a 996 GT3 and a 997 GT3. Has anyone driven both that can compare the cars for me? I currently have a 996tt (lightly modified) and it's a nice car, but it just does not seem very Porsche like to me for some reason. Some of this is just visual and I should get over it I know.

Go drive them both. It will be hard to replicate what a GT3 has without spending tons of $ on a regular 911. (And even then, it will not be a GT3)

Anyone have both the 996 GT3 and 997 GT3 that can compare the two? Pros and cons? I am curious also.

If I build a car it will be a 964 or older chassis. I agree that if what you want is a GT3 the best way to get one is just to buy one.
