2008 Nurburgring 24 hours
Yes, but we're talking about the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, not Le Mans. It is governed by VLN and ADAC, which have rather liberal rules. It is an interesting mix of pro race teams like Manthey, factory teams like Toyota's LF-A team, and even amateur teams racing much cheaper cars. Look at the Jurgen Alzen 996 Turbo for example, that would never pass muster under ACO regulations.
So really, Nissan could run any car they wanted... however, they are conspicuously missing. Even Toyota stepped up to the plate this time. But I hope the LF-A gets its *** kicked.

But it still remains that you wont see a pure street car in a professional race, ESPECIALLY not a 24 hour enduro. They'd have to stop for gas after every 30 minutes because the fuel cell isnt big enough, they'd have to stop for brake pad changes, likely would boil the brake fluid, kill the tires and get run over in the process.
The LF-A is a serious piece of hardware, but the model they showed testing at the ring for the race had a big spoiler on it, so they at least have prepared it for a endurance race.
Sure would be a great place for them to prove that the GT-R is as bad as they say it is. Heck, the thing was born and raised there. It ought to be ready to go 24 hours at the ring. They sure like to use the ring to show how fast the GT-R is. Okay, the competition has shown up and is ready to run against it. So bring it on!
I'm back from the track.
There wasn't a GT-R in the race, but one as a promo-car in the paddock and another one driving around in the streets. I think they hoped for some attention, but I hope they will come with a racecar next year and will shut up after losing the race...
The LF-A was nice to see, but nearly impossible to hear (maybe a hybrid). They had to work on it a few times, but they said so before the race. It was just a test-event for the LF-A, no trying to win the race or class.
If anybody wants to see pictures: during the week

Congrats to Porsche on taking 8 out of the top 10 spots in the race.

You and Hamann7 should get together and have a field day with the weasel words you both slip in. Maybe Nissan is staying away because they're focusing on Super GT? Maybe they're concentrating on launching the GTR to the rest of the world? Maybe the factory just didn't want to participate?
You must mean being the fastest GT car in Japan in the Super GT, formerly known as the "All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship".
Great car, but to suggest that Nissan is too busy to run it at the 24 hours of the Nurburging is nonsense.

Amen to that!
Amen to that, also!
