Hello:

I got my first new 07 RS via my Ferrari dealer who also owns a Porsche dealership - I didn't get to spec the car because I didn't want to agree to paying over MSRP. The 07 didn't last a month because after paying $160K+ I felt I should get a car how I wanted it set-up. Fortunately a new 08 became available with almost all the options I wanted so I traded my 07 in and added a little $$$ have been content since.

I've since been offered a GT3 and GT2 when slots were available - On both occassions I had to agree to a $$$ amount over MSRP before ordering.

My experience with deposits on exotics is that they can and will be returned if the dealer can get more $$$ from someone else because every time I've speced a car and placed a "deposit" I've been reminded that there are no guarantees in regards to a car being delivered.

In the end, life is short if $15K +/- premium is going to deter someone from buying a $150K+ car they probably don't really want the car.

My dealer had an MSRP policy before the GT3/RS and GT2 hit the doors. That policy blew out quickly when the market was willing to pay much more. Anyone that was lucky/fortunate enough to buy a new RS at MSRP must have a great relationship with the dealer.

There are still some very reputable dealers out there. I put a deposit down on a 2004 GT-3 before Porsche even committed to building the car. I also put a deposit down on a 2007 RS with Porsche of Orlando. Both cars were sold to me at MSRP with out any issues at all.

All 3 of ours went for MSRP. So did our GT2.

That's great and I applaud your dealership. Can I get an allocation for MSRP?

I wonder how many RS(s) sold for MSRP in California (Not including the ones which were quickly sold back to the dealers to eventually end up as used cars for over MSRP online).

There are good dealers out there, my contract states MSRP and previously they have honered that without any problem.

Unfortunately they will sell out of their allocation fast, so you must deposit early enough!

I wonder if the gauging dealers realize how much business they lose...

I will never pay over MSRP for anything, nor will I ever buy anything else from a dealer who charges over MSRP.
My future new car purchases will go to dealers who deserve the business, even if I have to drive a day or truck it in.

Unless they really screw up the MKII GT3 (Heavier.) the new regular GT3 should be worth more than the 997 GT3RS, let alone the still possible RS.

IMO, the RS will go MSRP as soon as the order forms are available for the MKII GT3.
Agree, as soon as MKII GT3 come out, even without a RS model, the current RS will for sure go down a bit further, even there are less than 300 total in the U.S.

People claimed that the 996 lineup, turbos, etc. would be a marked improvement over the 993. In retrospect, while the 996 is a great performance car, it hasnt help up to its billing, while the 993 Turbo the 993Turbo S is considered one of porsche's greatest achievements.

a MKII GT3 could be phenomenal. they could foul it all up.
what is proven, what is the case is that the current 997 GT3 and GT3 RS are nfact, arguably, two of porsche's finest cars ever.

for those who want something more drive-able, get a regular GT3. close your eyes, you wont know the difference. the RS has a little more pop, a little more panache, a little more growl, but they both inspire the same level of grin.

current market on the RS, with <1500-ish kind of miles is about 28 to 35 over. under 1k miles, figure 35 over. if white, add $5 to $8k to the pricing.
