Can you even get a GT2?
you never know, i remember when i was in high school my parents negotiated nearly 4k off retail for a civic. i figured since it was an economy car people that shopped for them woudl be hagglers.
then after i graduated college i took them car shopping with me, volvo dealer had a year end clearance i spotted an s40 i liked, msrp 37k, they told us to just throw any number out there my dad said 27k
, ended up getting the car for 28.5k
(this was before the economy tanked)when my dad went to buy his 996 there was such an air of snobbery at the dealership. we felt like we were doing them a favor by giving them our business. they wouldnt budge on their msrp even tho it was a great price for the car, but gave him an extra 1k for his trade in.
based on these experiences i figured once you reach a certain level of car, the dealerships dont even think about giving people deals. comments like, "the first time ferrari buyer usually buys multiple ferraris" kinda confirmed it.
i was hoping maybe the -20k comment would ruffle some feathers if it were true =P
I was just offered a straight trade on my 2nd pre-owned GT3RS Clubsport(OEM cage and seats, orange/black, PCCBs, ~600 miles) on a GT2 with an MSRP of $204K from a dealer in the Carolinas.
I don't know what the RS is valued at, but that seems like at least $20-30K less than the GT2's MSRP. However, the dealer had a customer who wanted a car just like my RS is configured.

yup ... my wallet can testify
IMHO, i like NA engine so my bias toward RS. that is a great offer but if that happen to me i would have think twice, no ... think 3 as in GT3 times

Porsche Roslyn has both GT2 and GT3RS models that have been sitting on the showroom floor for months. Seems to me that $270K-$280K (or thereabouts) for a used GT2 and $170K-$180K (or thereabouts) for a used GT3RS is simply too pricey in this economy. Bottom line is that when they are priced "to market" they will fly off the showroom floor. Whats market value in LI ? Good question, but not their "list prices". At least they have truly excellent service there. The MSRP on my 07 TT was $151K. I know that if I were purchasing now (basically 2 years later) I would expect a reasonable discount even on my "custom" ordered TT. Hey the GT2 and GT3RS models on the floor are beautiful (I really like the black GT2), but if I were purchasing one I would definitely order a couple of things differently. Question becomes can you get a order slot for a "custom" 2009 GT2 or GT3RS at MSRP (or less) from a local dealer (ie. Roslyn Porsche) ? Even with the economy in the crapper, getting a build slot for below MSRP on these 2 models seems like a long shot (as opposed to the TT). Anybody else hear differently ?
gt2
several of the new gt2 crs that are around have been mentioned on this thread but i know of about 14 other new gt2 cars on showroom floors that were not mentioned here. I dont think 20k under is crazy if you wait another 2 months I was offered one at 10k under recently. PM me if you are looking for a certain color. My guess is if you buy a gt2 and need to sell the car a year from now it will be worth less when you sell it than a low mile 2008 rs
Well, time will tell what resale will be like for less than 200 cars made.
In any case, it is a superior car to the RS in almost every way, that I can assure you. And even if one loses 20 grand or 50 grand, it's worth it... I suspect it won't drop that much, however.
Even in California, I have yet to see another one actually on the road. Only place I have seen others is at Lucent Motors, where they've worked on 4 or 5 of them.

Looks exactly like the ones in these pics, except for the colored model designation on the back, interior in sport adaptives with painted rears in exterior color and white stitching, and yellow seat belts... And by the way, these pics were taken by the local dealer during a recent visit to the factory. This is an actual 09 awaiting delivery at the Porsche Exclusive division.
Interesting. Funny how the North America Porsche brochure for 2009 excludes the GT2, however. Is yours a US car?
Congrats, either way. You'll love the car. Hopefully they won't ***** this one out before the DI version hits the ground.

Actually, on www.porsche.com you can build your own US 2009 GT2. Base price is $194,000...Destination charge is $950.
And just to answer your question, its not a US car...its a Mid East car. Hope this helps
