A dealer I know here in the UK had one for sale a few years ago. I am 6'4 and would not have been able to drive it, I could hardly sit in it, at least now I don't have to lust after one!

It was one of the four that were here illegally way back when and was NOT the one totalled and flown back to Deutschland for repairs. All four were here in my town for hp upgrades as it was cheaper to transport the cars here and fly the mechanics in from Germany. After they were finished, one of them went for a test ride with the owner's mechanic at the wheel. Totalled the car. Had it flown back to Germany where it was rebuilt. No names, but it happened less than 10 miles from where I am sitting right now.

I met Matt in December and toured his home and got a chance to live my dream in the Hans Stuck 996 GT1 - beautiful car. He was very attentive to hear about my 935 project as I mulled over the 917 and 934 in his vault. The F1 car was impressive but nothing compared to the Baby Turbo...my gawd is that car steeped in history.

I have tons of pics on my flickr account, search under Blackbird93576 and you can see the Drendell collection, both the hanger and vault cars.

They don't do much for me, except that they are so rare and the reason why they were built. I took these at Rennsport in 04

How about this for a spot?

The proper 996 variation of the GT1. One made, absolutely gorgeous (best looking version IMO).

I'm sure others on here can shed some light on whether Porsche themselves own it, and where it's been hiding all these years.

Can anyone tell me exactly what this event was though? The tags and assosciated pictures on Flickr suggest it's some sort of Porsche festival at Paul Ricard in France?

Images courtesy of Maxou13 from the aforementioned flickr.
