Performance options for the 996 GT3
My dad has a 996 GT3 and I am looking for a relatively inexpensive performance upgrade to buy him for his birthday what does anyone recommend and what brand of upgrade. I am looking for the least expense upgrade that will give me the most performance trying to keep the price in the 1000-2000 range, thanks for your help
the 996 GT3 is not easily upgraded as far as horsepower is concerned...you could get an Evomsit flash for the ECU in your price range but performance will not be greatly enhanced for the money...the best handling gift you could give would be a corner balance and 4 wheel alignment at a reputable shop (better if a race shop)..cost about $200-$250...at the same time you could also replace the rear toe links with ERP, Tarret, GMG or TRG adjustable toe links, with the locking plates...total cost for links and alignment should be under $1,000...that will help his car retain the rear toe setting, which is difficult to impossible with the stock setup and will give him a good alignment that will make the car handle like it was designed to...as Luis said...driver mods are probably the best especially if he is new to Porsche's....good luck and lucky dad

Go for the 'starr' performance muffler (Australian manufacturer in melbourne). It costs around $1490 (not including shipping) and saves 55 lbs from the rear of the car. However, most importantly it makes the car sound like it should - a race car. (note: it is LOUD and probably not to everyones taste). I drive around with mine everyday and its not a problem.
Otherwise, I would say go for the LWFW from porsche and CAT delete pipes from fabspeed. All up around 2k.
