997 GT3 ? problem areas recs re: purchase
Thinking about an 07 GT3 with just under 10k miles. I was told it was not tracked but driven in a "spirited" fashion. Car has PCCB. Current owner is 2nd owner and has put about 7k on it. What are problem or weak areas in car if any? Cost of major expected maintenance? Unusual recalls?
The car was driven in a spirited fashion means its been thrashed. The general consensus is that these cars are pretty bullet proof and should take that sort of treatment.
A few things to consider-
-previous service history, have the two owners serviced the car as required, check the books.
- is the car still applicable for a CPO warranty. This can only be obtained if the car is under original warranty, has service history and no previous panel damage to more than a certain number of panels (1 or 2 I think)
-spirited driving: get a porsche dealer to check its cpu for stage 2 or higher overrevs... bad shifts= high overrevs= future trouble for you... these engines are tough and can take heaps but if its been abused you won't want the headaches.
-PCCBs- check for chips or cracks between drill holes. Also have them checked for thickness. If they need replacement, they are very expensive (AUS$20k)-if you plan to track, swap to iron... much cheaper to replace...
As for known problems with these cars, there are very few as they are pretty rock solid. The main issue is a tendency for the RMS to leak on some cars (supposedly if they sit around alot of the time but this explanation is arguable).
Otherwise fantastic cars, do your homework on it, get it checked and you won't have a problem...
