Seat belt mounting the proper way.. and FYI for your safety
Seat belt mounting the proper way.. and FYI for your safety
6 Speeders.
There has been a ton of discussion on the proper mounting of competition seat belts.
I wanted to take this oppurtunity to show you how a proper seat belt anchor is secured in a race car. ( 997 GT3 CUP ) shown.
As you can see it is NOT mounted to the seat or seat mount in anyway shape or form.
The correct and proper way to mount your competition harness is as follows:
In the end what is your life worth?

As you can see these are mounted to the chassis directly.
Picture show in a 997 GT3 CUP.

Center tunnel on a 997 GT3 Cup.
I hope this helps when you are installing or having the shop you choose to install your belts do the job correctly.

Very good information Fabryce. Safety should be first and foremost, especially safety belts. Thank you for sharing!! I'm sure all the Mod. shops will read this and it will reinforce their safety standards as well. Kenny
Always here to help our extended family...
thanks for posting the pics fabryce. so the eyelets are screwed to the tub? are those screw holes fabricated or does the gt3 already have them?
it was a pita to wrap the sub belts (schroth profi) around the subbar. not much slack to work with from the belts yet still able to wrap it properly. the thing with street/track cars is we often slide the seats back-n-forth. having the the subbar mounted to the seat frame allows one to slide it back-n-forth w/o having to readjust the belts. plus it will always be at the recommended anchor point since the bar moves with the seat. with the fixed mount to the tub, the anchor point changes as you slide the seat (different driver, passenger, or your legs grew that day, whatever). but this should be perfect for fixed seats.

A agree with you on the topic of sliding the seats back and forth, However this is the same set up that we run in endurance racing and the seat is usually on a slider..
It takes no time at all to adjust the belts. In the end its a safety issue.
You simply dont want the belts mounted to any part of the seat frame or structure.
Just my 02.. and MHO.
Snap-ins no longer legal
Sorry to dig up this old post but thought I'd point out that recently these snap in type belt mounts have been made illegal in some series. They now require a direct bolt-in type mount. There were a few cases of the catch spring breaking on the snap in types which allowed the harness to unhook from the eye-bolt.
So for any of you who may run your cars in different sanctioned events (SCCA, NASA etc) you may want to look into it.
Fabryce's advice about the mounting location (chassis vs seat) is still valid of course.
