Sunroof on 997 GT3
Why in the world do they offer that car with a sunroof, much less make it mandatory?? I hate having a sunroof on my TT, but it's not as 'hardcore'/purpose built as a GT3, so I can understand why it's even an option.
My question is of course rhetorical since the typical GT3 owner just gets one to cruise, few highway pulls, and to look gooooood. Can't do the last without a stupid sunroof.....

I've tracked my GT3 & TT numerous times and have tracked previous Porsches that I've owned.
I like the sunroof and stereo in my GT3 and wouldn't want a car i use on the street to be without either.
Just out of curiosity what's the difference in your lap times with and without a sunroof.
Short of a professional driver you would be hard pressed to notice the difference other than the loss of some headroom which might be a problem for some drivers.
Your username is a good one for you, you sound like a bonehead.

Always has to devolve into a personal attack. Ah well. Such are the perils of dealing with humorless e-thugs.Bruce, you're absolutely correct. I probably wouldn't see any difference. But then again, I didn't get a GT3 or a P-car for that matter to be a track rat. The 3 is a car of compromise. More track oriented than a regular Carrera or a
turbo. But for those that want that extra edge, why make it 'mandatory'? Enjoy your sunroof and stereo, Bruce.

I have never driven my GT3 with the sunroof closed; I live in a warm, sunny place and cant imagine not enjoying the weather and the sound of the GT3 engine. Funny how many people "hate" the sunroof but load their cars with Nav TV screens, stereos, power heated seats, etc
I actually think Porsche had it right with the RS America strategy: delete the sunroof, A/C, radio and include real lightweight door panels...you could then add them back, if you wished ,as options.
Bill
Decreased headroom aside, does a sunroof affect the structural rigidity or body stiffness in a GT3?
I like my sunroof and always open it whenever possible. I really enjoy the car this way. Hopefully it's not a crime!
