997 gt3 OIL TEMP

Hello I have a noob question, so far I have owned my 07 gt3 for about 4k miles. In this 4k I have cruised, been stuck in 6 hour traffic on the way back from vegas, and done some very spirited canyon driving. Through out all of this I never really noticed ANY movement in my OIL temp. However the other day when I was driving on the freeway I had a wood chip kick up and puncture my center radiator, got a check coolant level message and pulled over to the shoulder and realized my coolant was leaking out, got towed to the porsche mechanic =(. Since then my Porsche tech has replaced the center radiator with a new oem porsche unit. When I got the car back I was obviously more aware of keeping my eye on both the coolant temp and the oil temp. Heres the funny part, my coolant temp stayed perfectly at the right temp and didnt move a hair, while I noticed a fluctuation on my oil temp. To test this out I let the car idle 30 minutes and noticed the temp did increase from the normal 200 to about 225. Next I proceeded to drive the gt3 in a normal fashion on the highway and realized the oil temp dropped right down to 200 and maintained at that temp as long as there was no traffic. The last scenario was traffic and I realized this is when the car reached temps of around 226 before I decided to stop testing. Is this fluctuation of 200-226 normal on a gt3? Has this always been the case, am I just noticing the fluctuation now because I am paranoid from the radiator incident? Or is there something wrong with the car? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

This is completely normal. The highest oil temp I've seen is 230 at the track on a 95 degree day.

Normal...mine is same. NO fluctuation on water temp, oil varies from 195-215

If you want to see HOT, look at the photos of the orange GT3 with 225 mile for sale in California (Auto Gallery I believe...it's on EBAY). Car shows ~240 degrees idling on an 81 degree day !!!!!!!!!!

If I were you I would get the front grill screens installed so as to not have this happen to the radiators again.

Congrats on the purchase! Perfectly normal. If you are in stop and go traffic (typical LA freeways) for even 15 minutes, you will see the oil temp. rise. Talking abour 75-90 degrees ambient temp.

By the way, you should consider getting the wire mesh screens put onto your inlets. Lots of DIY posts here and other Porsche boards. If you are in LA, and don't mind driving down the 405 to Santa Ana, GMG can install those for you. Board sponsor here. Look to your right. I had mine put on by them. Perfectly happy...

I have seeen oil temps in 997S and GT3 reach 260º at the track in 100º+ weather

235-245 is ideal oil temp for the track....
