Porsche Ready to Let VW Group Share Panamera, 911 Platforms, CEO Says

Porsche may share its Panamera and 911 platforms with other VW Group brands in the near future, newly appointed Porsche CEO Michael Macht said.

In a recent report by Autocar, Macht said Porsche will need to fill a support role for VW.

"Porsche needs to become a strong pillar of VW, as well as having its own production and research and development capabilities. It is important to use synergies as well as having independence," the CEO said.

Two models included in future synergies will likely be the Panamera and 911.

"The Panamera platform could be used by other brands for models that are in development and at the concept stage," he mentioned.

Porsche, on the other hand, won't necessarily borrow much from VW. Currently the only significant VW Group-derived component that Porsche has is the V-6 motor for the Cayenne.
New models are on the way for the sports car brand.

"Any new model would have to be exclusive, sporting and make a good business case," Macht said. "In any segment Porsche has to be the most exclusive, as well as being the best quality and capable of delivering the best driving experience."

New models include hybrid and yes, electric vehicles, which Macht says should be "up to scratch" in two years time.

Interestingly, this news comes after the much publicized takeover attempt of VW by Porsche. Insiders say it's not likely the two have buried the hatchet, but are battening down the hatches in the economic slump.

911 platform shared? Might we see the rebirth of the Karman Ghia?

No way will the 911 be shared. Maybe the Panamera will be shared ala Cayenne/Touareg. But they again no one wants a $50K+ VW

I am not too sure Porsche has a say on what VW will want. They are now a subsidiary, they are pretty much at the whim of VW.

This will be a very stupid idea on both ends (vw, porsche) It's going to totally ruin the brand.
