Considering first porsche (new gt3)- need help

I'm very seriously considering ordering a new GT3 to be my first Porsche... I have a few questions -

1...can i use this as a daily driver? I may track it once or twice a year max
2...which options are must haves? Which options are wastes of money?
3. How much can I get off MSRP?
4. when will 2011 model be avail? I don't want the car until next spring anyway - so maybe I can get that model?
5. has anyone gone from an M6 to gt3? What are your impressions?
6. I want that royal blue color - is that aqua blue metallic?

Thanks

Jeff

Welcome and below please find my thoughts.

1...can i use this as a daily driver? I may track it once or twice a year max

Get a great set of winter tires and wheels and you should be OK in Chicago (given it's so flat). Potholes, speed bumps, steep garage ramps, etc., may haunt you, but if you're free from those you should be fine. The ride is a lot less bumpy that I had thought, though no doubt, it's loud and bumpy.

2...which options are must haves? Which options are wastes of money?
Totally depends on you and what you plan to do with the car (e.g. drive it into the ground, resell in 2-3 years, etc.). If you're going to use as a DD, you may want options such as the NAV, enhanced sound, and sport adaptive seats. As a DD you may want to stay away from the sport bucket seats (with carbon fiber backs). IMHO, the Ceramics are wonderful and I think help in the resell of your car (if that's what you're looking to do).

3. How much can I get off MSRP?
Depends on how much you're willing to spend on shipping if you don't buy locally. Give Porsche of Olmsted a call -- I think they have another GT3 coming in soon. Ask for Chris. You should be looking at 3-7% off MSRP depending on options, geography, ec.

4. when will 2011 model be avail? I don't want the car until next spring anyway - so maybe I can get that model?

Next November. Then you'll want to wait until the 2012, and then wait for the 2013....just pull the trigger now and enjoy

5. has anyone gone from an M6 to gt3? What are your impressions?
Not I.

6. I want that royal blue color - is that aqua blue metallic?
Don't know.

Oh, and you may want to consider a turbo instead as a DD. I'm sure you can do a GT3 as a DD in Chicago, but I'd think that most people that would DD a GT3 likely live in more temperate climates.

I've got an 07 that I use as a DD - I drive at least 100+ a day, so I can tell without a doubt that it can very well be used daily. However, it all depends on your wants and needs. The 07 doesnt have bluetooth - which is a big disappointment for me (especially in CA where we can't use cell phones without it). The '10 has it, and I would get it and NAV, satellite/ipod. Even though the engine sounds fantastic (especially with the SW pipes), the ability to listen to something else is nice too. The ride is a bit stiff (coming in from a MBZ) sometimes - but I dont mind. I find the clutch to be just right - but I am used to pretty heavy clutches on older muscle cars.

+1 on the buy now, not 2 years from now!

Of course you can but this is a subjective question. Meaning you should at least test drive one first. Keeping in mind that if this is your primary mode of tranpo, this is the car your going to be driving your wife/kids/girlfriend/mistress around in.

2...which options are must haves? Which options are wastes of money?

For me, PCCB, Sport Buckets (for the track), Nav and Ipod... front nose lift is a maybe as I am not sure how much this is option is really going to help. There is already such a large overhang on Porsche's that I think scraping is going to happen regardless.

3. How much can I get off MSRP?

Have not heard of a lot of people getting below MSRP.

4. when will 2011 model be avail? I don't want the car until next spring anyway - so maybe I can get that model?

New cars tend to show up at the end of the FY. 2011 models should be available around this time next year. At which point there will be great savings on 2010 models!

5. has anyone gone from an M6 to gt3? What are your impressions?

Cant speak to this. But the M6 is far more luxurious than the GT3 will be. Especially in terms of ride.....

6. I want that royal blue color - is that aqua blue metallic?

Absolutely. It just depends on what you expect. I've driven Defender 90's daily and it feels like you were in a tin can and thrown down the road. But that's what you expect. When I went to an H1, people asked me all the time how I could stand it. After the D90, the H1 felt like an Escalade.
2...which options are must haves? Which options are wastes of money?
Attached is what I ordered. I don't consider the PCCB a must and prefer steel for the 4-5 track weekends I'll do a year.
3. How much can I get off MSRP?
Wow! I didn't know you could get any!

Asked and answered

M6? You mean one of those Bavarian Manure Wagons?
6. I want that royal blue color - is that aqua blue metallic?
That's it! You can't have a GT3. It must be white or red (or black or yellow, if you must..... )

thanks for all the responses guys -

for winters / bad weather I will drive my ML63 - and when the weather is nice enough, I will DD the gt3.

Sounds like everyone is extremely happy, and no complaints except for the occasional scrape here or there...

I appreciate all the feedback,

Jeff
