Here is a video of SLS AMG driven by Bernd Schneider 5X DTM world champion at Laguna Seca. Time: 1:40.74 ... pretty slow consider it was driven by a professional. There was a long pause when ask if he like to have one included in his personal collection lol. " ... best sports car I ever driven ..." Yeah right.

That video only tells part of the story. The lap where they got the time off of actually was a riding lap where the motortrend journalist was riding shotgun. They took the lap time off the tape.

A bunch of us were at a Private Lounge event at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks later where they were hot lapping us in SLS's in the 1:38's. I personally clocked about ten laps in the 1:38's with passengers in the car.

They had Bernd Schneider and Bernd Maylander driving.

When we asked Bernd about the crappy 1:40 lap time he said that he had not done any timed laps for journalists. He said with people in the car they typically run between 1:38 and 1:40 to maintain a margin of saftey.

Funny fact about these lap times is that they were done on stock (300 Tread Wear) Continentals.

I would have loved to see some laps run on some sticky 60 tread wear cup tires.

I was quite impressed with how the SLS ran on Laguna Seca. The car blows every other AMG away that I have driven.

For some reason I don't like how the back kind of tapers off. I like my cars with a wide ***.

I agree. The back half of the car looks like a Miata on steroids. The exterior of the GT3 AMG fugly. Hate that hugh long nose. The interior is very cool though.

The Audi R8 GT3 is absolutely wicked and killer looking.

Was it me or what but on the video of the MB SLS AMG street car running the Laguna lapping sounded really odd?
