3.8 Gt3 Rs Exhaust
Another option rarely discussed is a custom built exhaust system. In this scenario, the name of the builder and their reputation is sometimes the only thing you can go by. This option begins to make sense given how much some of previously mentioned builders are asking for their systems.
With that being said, there is a very good pipe builder who has built a couple of very nice systems utilized on both 6GT3 and now 7GT3 with very good results to guys on this forum and Rennlist.
Charles recently completed the system on my RS that utilizes the factory sport button, makes good HP, did not loose bottom end TQ (actually made TQ) and weights @35LBS and has RS styled tips. Being a custom spec, chose 321 stainless, no cats and no drone.
It is not my intention to get into the HP/TQ shootout debate but what I will say is:
- Fit and finish are excellent
- You get to spec what you want based on what your criteria/use
- Charles is easy to work with
- Yes, it is louder than factory. Now, in standard mode it sound slightly louder than the factory sport mode. In sport mode, lower toned and louder.
BTW, the RS was dyno'd before and after.
Other than being a satisfied return customer from my 6GT3, I have no affiliation.

i just need to pile together some money.
Troy, I see your level of excitement growing. Can't wait to see all that on the car when it arrives. You should have it at the deal for install when the car arrives.
I put on the FVD bypass pipe. To be honest, I only did it for sound. And it sounds great. These cars are already great on the track in stock form. Short of a special car, I have seen nothing that can run with them.

On the subject of your exhaust, all you have is the FVD side muffler delete? You are still using the stock manifolds/cats and the stock Ti rear section muffler? Tell me more, got any pics?
For me the exhaust upgrade is all about dropping weight to help balance the car. My 3RS is/will be a race car first, street car second. Sure the power is great but my top priority because the car is already out the box. My 3RS will live in a world of 4k-8k rpm, so low end torque is not a big concern. As long as the power and torque is made were I use the car, I'm good with it. My big question is what direction I should go to get there.

I thought this was a good thread; http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ferrerid=59610
No affiliation, don't know these guys, never heard of them. That does not mean much, I don't know much about any tuners or tuning.

Not to much longer to wait. Car should be done the week of Sep. 13th. From then it's up to shipping and customs.

1. Good luck on the wait. It seems like years. years. years.
2. I have the FVD bypass. The muffler is in the rear, and not side, and I think that is what you mean. When you do that, you still use the stock cats, etc. They remove the rear section muffler, and install pipes in their place. It allows you to still use the sport button. May people sell this product. In the end, most are close to the same.
3. I don't have any pics. My bad. It's just 2 pipes coming out like stock. I bought it for sound. Man it's bad A. I didn't care about anything but sound. Women and children run.
FYI, we did a computer checkup on my hours on the motor. I have 45 total hours. 42 have been on track. Even the Porsche rep fell out laughing. Driving an RS on the road is wrong. Plain wrong. I don't think I would buy one if it had just tootled around town. So, call me when you beat that percentage cajunman.
In my post above they claim more HP, only 2 Db and 40lbs less weight. Tempting. Pretty cheap, some Cup parts and some custom parts, but I am guessing at that.
I have heard that when you just bypass side mufflers and leave everything else stock, you might get too much pressure or heat or something that end up cracking the OEM center muffler.
I like the idea of leaving all stock, just cheap(ish) pieces of pipe to replace 2 big cans that only radiate heat and weigh 40lbs. It seems like a free or at least cheap lunch??
Would the car also run cooler without side mufflers?

I've never heard of anyone removing the sides and not the rear. I guess it is possible. There are several good suppliers on this forum that make good rear muffler bypass pipes. Most people do this route, due to the sport button function. AFter that, I think you start becoming a race exhaust, and need to consider euro cats that are much much lighter. I have them on my GMG exhaust on the GT2, and it makes a ton of difference. But, you pay big for that. I would prefer the full blown race exhaust, but you could run on a few tracks that would exceed db limits that are becoming more and more common with lawyers and whinning people on the lurk.
Yes, I can't go that loud. It's Daily driver.
My MKI with Sharky and unplugged was just perfect in terms of sound level and the kind of sound it made.
Loud enough to hear yourself on track, but just not loud anough to annoy the neighbors too much.

That seems to be what the cup cars run (only the center muffler, no side mufflers)...at least the ones i was driving with the other day.

Bang for buck in terms of actual results, Charles Dundon custom set up cannot be beat... his 321 set ups are lighter than the titanium stuff offered by the "well known guys".... and he is making power and torque that exceeds advertised claims... they might not be as pretty as some but they are hand made goodness from a great guy that stands behind his work.
If you are considering spending the money for a full system, you would be wise to contact him and discuss with him the merits of what he can build vs what is available off the shelf.
pm me if you want his contact info
