my RS new birthday
Mike welcome to the dark side.
You are now in th fine company of Mooty, Gomez and myself.. except you win as you have a RS!
You will see a night and day difference as we did.
Better acceleration, better braking and better handling. The bolt in cage will also add rigidity to the set up and handle even better.
Just remember, if you take it all out nice, it can always go back in nice, and by the pics it looks like you did that.
Also dont forget to get a corner balance and new alignment when your done, and buy a set of slicks too!

in all seriousness... once these really start tanking in value... it makes sense IMHO
I should have kept my 996-3 and gutted it...
This is really amazingly hard core stuff. Kudos guys.
But can I ask why not consider buying a cup car in such a case as it really appears that there is no ability to use the car for the road any more beyond a certain point.

Costs to much.. I know what you mean about the use of the car, but factor in engine and trans rebuilds and you're close to 70k!
After having the Quicmobile in my garage and driving it a few times now I have to agree. I love your RS, but it seems tamer then the yellow headlight 996 you had. My car is an appliance, and I will use it as is for a few more years and then make the call. No offence to Mo or Jose, but the Carrera isn't the right one to do this kind of conversion on, a GT3 is the one IMO.

a gutted RS street car is the closest one will come to a cup car for performance.
If one goes of the deep end with their 997 GT3RS like Gomez and I did with our 997S's that will be one car to be rekoned with.
It can be made lighter than a cup car and sans all the tranny and engine rebuilds.
I'm so stoked wit the way this is heading.
I have only heard of 2 other Gt3 RS's that have been gutted for track duty.
Mike, you are in a league of your own

No offense taken but I would say there is a place for tracking a 997s. It's just way cheaper buy in than any other 911 and it's a ton of fun. After this I would get a cup car for sure but to learn, have fun and just have a good all around track car it's a blast. Look at all the Synergy racing 997s builds. Those guys love the platform for a ton of reasons but one of the biggest reasons is the lower cost. I'm sure Kerrigan has a bunch of other points that I'm not remembering.
I don't disagree that the Carrera is a ton of fun and very capable, I drive mine at a level that keeps me close to the likes of PJS, a fully track prepped 996GT3 (Dyno'd at 390 at the rear wheels), and a couple of well prepped 964 RSA's. I know that after driving my Carrera for about 4 years, and now driving a these other cars a few times, that the GT3 is just that much more car then, and a Carrera can never be a GT3. As for costs, the starting point is a little less, but the journey is the same amount. I am just saying that using a GT3 is IMO the better starting point.
gomez and mo already got 997 that's 1/2 stripped and kitted out for track. for them to sell the car now and buy GT3 to start again the delta is huge.
knowing what they know now, if they had no cars, i am certain they will start with a GT3.
now, how does PJS get 390 on his blue car? i just emailed him......
i dyno'd at 352.
Oh yeah, very good point, the tranny and engine rebuilds are very regular from memory...
