Where to buy a Used gt3rs for track?

I'm looking to upgrade to a gt3rs. I would like to find one on the cheaper side so a DD or track car is great as I am only going to use it for track days. Where do you look for something like this? A retired cup car is great too!!

A regular GT3 may be your best bet. Then you can put some nice coilovers on it and a better wing for track duties with the money you save over the RS.

Obviously a late 996 or early 997 Cup Car would be the best option if you don't mind the high maintenance. I'd check the classified here for the GT3 and on Rennlist for the Cup Car.

what is your budget?

Truspeed has some 997 cup cars
Wright motorsports - as for BJ
TRG lists cars for sale on their website
etc etc

nugent_crai Nov 8, 2010 09:48 AM

Cheap, I'm broke! But ideally I'd like to sell/trade my 08 997 for it

RL classifieds under "race cars" -- all budgets represented

good place to start...

Saw it, its totally calling my name! Fav color too!!

Heres the problem ...
Yesterday at englishtown i was doing well in the turns. Passing most except some big power guys who would make up time in the straights to pull away before i could pass them! I'm stuck right right now because i maxed out the power my C2 will give me. I think its time to move up to something with more power or just can carry more speed in the turns to help make up for the lack of big power (and me being 200lbs heavier then most of the drivers!). I was up against 500+hp evo's, e55's, 650hp turbos, etc. I would think a cup car or a gt3rs would be the next logical step, right?

You need a GT2.:D

GT3Ranger Nov 8, 2010 10:31 AM

In reading your posts I would say if you're pressed for $$$'s then I wouldn't go for a Cup car. That's serious upkeep. Older ones require engine rebuild every 40 hrs ect... If you don't have a truck & trailer well now you need them for sure.
There are plenty of '07 GT3RS's out there for good prices.
Check ebay and Cars.com
I saw a black/orange '07 RS with only 274 miles in Texas for 119K and you can always deal.
Prices are great. It's a buyers market.

If you're planning to trade your car in and not add any money on top you can get a nice 996 GT3. Otherwise you will need around $30k for a .1 Gt3 and around 40k for .1 RS and so forth...

It all depends on how deep your pockets are :D

nugent_crai Nov 8, 2010 11:11 AM

My pockets are empty! No moola! I'd like to trade with maybe 10-15 on top at most! I have no money nor do I want engine rebuilds/high maint costs and I have no trailer/truck so it needs to be street friendly! Thats why I was really thinking the gt3rs. I'd like the gt2 for power performance, but after seeing how much faster my car was around the track then most of the turbo cars, I'd like to stick with NA. (I know the gt2 being rwd and the turbos awd plays a factor too)

sin911 Nov 8, 2010 11:46 AM

Considering 997S goes around 55-60k and mk1 GT3's around 80-85k. Your best bet would be to buy a 996 GT for around 50-60k. You can invest in some suspension upgrades and make it an amazing track car. In terms of power it will not be a 997 mk2 GT3 or RS for sure, but within you budget this is the most reasonable thing to do.

How much does a 996 GT cost?

LUISGT3 Nov 8, 2010 12:41 PM

You can get a 996GT3 in the high $40's/low $50's.
That orange 997.1 RS on ebay is nice. You would be surprised how much faster (actual lap times) you will be that car over your C2. It's not all about hp. The GT3's sweet spot is up top above 7k rpms where everybody else is shifting. A GT3 with a proper suspension set up and an experienced driver can be faster than 500hp cars at the track.

Amazing! Love that color green, it's just about 30k over my price point!
I'm thinking a salvage car might be my best option!
