997 GT3 TC Failure

Dear all,

i`ve got problem with TC in 997 GT3 2008.

If im driving for example on 2.500 rpms with constant speed, info message blinks up on dashboard and write TC Failure. I have to stop turn engine off, pull out key from the lock and start engine again. TC Failure is disapier then, but if i repeat the same driving constant speed, its blinks again.

Any experience from your side?

Do you have factory wheels and tires on your car, and are all four tires the same make/model, size, and percentage of wear?

If there is any discrepancy among tires in the car, it might confuse the sensors of the traction control and cause the code...

Just a thought.

Regards,

if your tires diameters are close to what they were supposed to be in stock version - you probably need to see your dealer or mechanic with PIWIS and get error codes analyzed.

Thanks for advice,

its orginal wheels of GT3 with michelin pilot sport cup tires as well, orginal dimensions. I was also thinking about sensors, maybe they dont read right dimension of tires (even the orginal tires and dimensions are on car), bla bla..Well i visit porsche service and get the answer after PIWIS coding and software update that the problem is with communication between TC modul and sensors - they want to rechange processor without warenty either i inform them over the email when the car got 11 months...hmmmm how yes no! Last information on the phone was that maybe they will not have to rechange it and will try some other option to do.

The biggest problem is that i live in small country and closes service is 160km from my home... and its not by the way to visit them for every "little" problem as im busy with work.

if your tire/wheel are orig. you probably hit a big bump or drove up a steel driveway with one wheel off the ground. when i do that, 50% of the time TC failure comes on. pull key out of ignition, reinsert it and it should go away. then that's pretty normal. i have 4 997.1gt3 variants, they all have that same characteristic.

not sure if PIWIS can fix it permanently. i think when certain wheel are lifted off ground under certain circumstances, the ECU is confused so it tells you TC failed and try to cut power to save the driver.... dont know.
it only happens to me on very lop sided driveways and always at speed lower than 5mph.

hmmm,

well, then TC is trying to save me every time i "jump" into the car :-) ha ha

I have to speak once again with guys from service, as they connect it on PIWIS and drive around, the problem was in losing communication between sensors and TC unit. I will update you when the problem will be hopefully slove!

Sorry.. I mean ON (driving state) to OFF. Memory is hazy as I now live in HK and haven't driven my GT3 for 4 months.. also, can't go to the car to check so not sure what the relevant ignition markings are [to be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever even paid much attention to my ignition barrel]!

Anyway, the basic principle is shutting down the car and restarting on the move using the clutch rather than the starter motor.

1) dip the clutch
2) ignition from ON to OFF,
3) leave for a few seconds (5 is plenty)
4) ignition from OFF to ON (i.e. back to driving state, not to engage starter motor)
5) pick up the clutch- car will restart

Don't do any funky **** like pulling the key out. You will crash. No need to use starter motor.

Generally going to OFF then ON resets the sensors so it should solve the TC issue and save you stopping every time you go over an expansion joint.

Should you have to do this on an 100,000 dollar + car? Different question! I do it when my ABS sensor packs in which happens sometimes if I brake hard on a bumpy road, and I used to do it when my oil pressure sender was on the blink. There may be someone along shortly to tell me it's not a good idea, but works for me and no issues.

As for a reset beep, no, it shouldn't. Just beeps when it first flashes the warning, right?
