On Track with GT3's/Seat Belts
On Track with GT3's/Seat Belts
I've driven the "road" versions in Europe at Spa, Nurburgring, etc. and they are the best production porsche, since the early 911 Carrera RS, for fun on the street/track in a long time. Very quick (Pilot Cups) in "stock" form. I like to have my clients use "Schroth" belts because they come stock in the "Cup" version of GT3's.
If your clients are going to run in any PCA track events, make sure you use the 3" Schroth laps belts. The Schroth belts that come in the Cup car and with the GT3 Club Sport package only have 2" lap belts. While this is good enough for the FIA and SuperCup series, it won't pass with PCA.

HI KARLS:
Thanks for your input ,however the rules with regard to the belts have been changed last year!
We, (Cup people) have been ardently against the 3" lap requirement, for every reason under the sun.
Time precludes my sentiment with respect to this issue.
The Natl. committee has been reasonable and now allow ALL 996 Cup cars that were originally equiped with 2" lap belts to retain them.
Rest assured that these original concept belt arrangements are very safe and (I believe) safer than 3" lap belt systems.

Mark,
I race a Cup car in PCA and am aware that 2" belts are approved for Cup cars and only for Cup cares. They are not approved for GT3 street cars or any other type of 996 car. So my point was not to put 2" lap belts in other 996 based cars.

I made a strong case every year since 2000 about the lap belts and finally they gave in. We must continue to make the case for 2" lap belts because they fit the body(human) and seat of the car much better. the fact that they allow them in cup cars should be an easy fit in for the rest of the cars. If only someone would speak up during the rules change interval of club racing. havefuntakechancesdriveporsche-Mark
