check engine light, melted bumper

Took my new to me 3 week old 996 Gt3 out on a Porsche rally today. Putting around and the check engine light comes on. I had a PO420 catalyst threshold bank 1. I noticed above the passenger side exhaust tip the bumper had a small melt in it and bumper was warped. Coincidence? Car has 42k miles on it and is running great.

Sounds to me like the tip was hit on something and bent up enough to touch. I have seen many 996 GT3's with perfectly good tips.
