New Porsche 960 model?

Automobile magazine has a story on the new mid-engined 960 model that Porsche plans to market against the Ferrari 458 Italia:http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...ive/index.html.

Surprised this thread hasn't generated more comments. I saw this article the other day and was intrigued that Porsche is looking more into 6cyl power than V8. But given economy standards, I guess it makes sense. And if they can get 600+ HP (proven in the 2RS) in a lightweight, mid-engine car, that adds more intrigue. As the 'volume' performance brand, Porsche will need something like this to outshine the Audi R8 (and it's descendants).

I hate to say it, but it sounds like a future-gen Cayman Turbo RS...given that it will share some platform with the post-991.

The idea sounds cool (I guess) but I dont like the idea of using turbos although I know that it may be hard and expensive to get hp similar to that of the 458 with a N/A flat 6. I perfer high-reving (8k+) cars and if it has turbos, Im assuming that it wont rev high.

Both engines are still fantastic, but if porsche will make a car like this they need to stick to what the know in a sense. If they are doing a mid engine car use the same motor setup that works for them already.

I am a true fan of midengined cars and I can't wait to see this. I really hope it happens
