I don't think you seriously think anyone is "embarassed" to be seen driving a GT2. And as you know because the pictures are plastered everywhere Porsche has a wind tunnel.
But however you spin it or sugercoat it or try to rewrite history the early 360s were a handling nightmare at speed on the track due to a rear airflow problem. This is not even a debateable point. I drove a few at speed on a track and had in depth discussions with several of the upper tier challenge series drivers the first year they were used in the challenge series and they had a definate problem keeping that tail stable. This was the year on the challenge series they had two groups the 355 group and the new 360 group to help phase out the 355 cars.
I like my "ricer" wing fine on both my GT2s thanks for asking. LOL
And Ferraris are a lot of things but garbage is not one of them IMHO.
BTW I have a friend who wants to order a 430 spyder and receive it within a year do you have any leads for me???? I might even order a 430 coupe for my self at the same time. But I would need to glue a wing on it if I bought it. No ricer wing no deal. LOL

Well I pick up the 430 tomorrow and have a Spider allocation for August. By default, you would be barred from purchasing a 430 in light of your propensity for whale tails. However, I could get you a good deal on a Honda which you can mod and probably beat your GT2 with.
Hamann, trust me speed is overrated. Have you seen the video where a VW blows an TT and Supra? I also understand a Evo moded TT beat the CGT. So what is the point?
Bottom line is speed is not what makes a good car. It is the fun factor and the ability of the car to make one a better driver. The GT2 is not one of those cars.
Nick,
My local new Penske Ferrari dealer has a new 430 coupe in the showroom and I was pretty disapponinted with the quality of the paint. The sales staff was pretty disappointed that I was pointing the paint flaws out to the public on their opening day with Mr. Penske in the building. Their 430 spyder looked fine though in terms of finish. I told the sales guy he was batting 500% and that would get him in the hall of fame. But he didn't get the joke.
They are telling the rubes like me with no connections. One year wait on a 430 coupe and three years on a convertible. I didn't know how to say "stick your cars where the sun doesn't shine " in Italian but I think they got the idea?
They also want 1.3 million for a pre owned black Enzo. I told the guy I only wanted one not two???? I also told him I needed to find room to install my old 8-track since it was a radio delete car. Showing no trace of any sense of humor, he told me they all came without a radio. Which I think was the point of my joke.
Needless to say I drove away empty handed with my whale tail ricer wing glistening in the neon lights. LOL

i really can't imagine a gt2 or a gt3 not making one a better driver if a person is motivated to do so.
i agree fully that fast is not always better.
reliability IS. it took me a while to figure out why there are so many garage queens in the f-car camp. they are beautiful and evoke a visceral sensation that is hard to quantify or characterize and that has value. for me, that value would be lost on me after the first major repair (or repain?).

If you don't think a GT2 is fun or can make you a much better driver, I have doubts whether you have even driven the car, let alone push it to its outer limits. Given that you are a Ferrari guy, I can't say that I'm all that surprised.

I'm not going to address your comments about Z06's or Elise's because I find them ludicrous. If only you knew what you can do to a GT2...

Nick, with all due respect, I think I know a thing or two about speed, maybe even more than you do.

Ferrari maintenance seems to be the big issue with Porsche owners. Keeping thinking that way.
nick's new starbucks coffee getter

it is a very very mellow car IMO. "comfort" was the best one word description that kept coming to mind. if it didn't have all the horsies all over the interior, i'd have thought i was driving a better riding E46 M3. 360/430 i've only driven my stradale, and two 360 spiders with tubi. the 430 coupe is by far the most "refined" and uneventful one of the bunch. that said, the torque is much increased but the refinement leaves it feeling maybe stradale fast (even if it's much faster). it's probably the sound of the stradale that makes it feel faster than it is. the two 360 tubi equipped spiders felt more alive and delivered alot more sensory imput on the street at street speeds.
the 430 has a crapload of grip, but it's an effortless grip. to get it to the point of involvement during cornering that stimulates like a 360, the speeds would have to be considerably greater. nick does need to check the tire pressure though as the car felt a bit unstable at speed. as well, i think the steering is a bit light (overboosted) for a sportscar. this obviously has a negative effect on steering feel.
i guess what i'm trying to say is this car is a FANTASTIC street car (truly an every day driver in terms of comfort), but it has moved more into the realm of porsche in that you have to be going very fast to be stimulated. iow, on the steet i think it's fairly boring, but on the track it's still a lot of fun (only rode in the one at the track though).

"boaty" like in 1972 Lincoln Continental Mk IV boaty???
Cool, leave it to Ferrrai to combine modern performance with classic retro Lincoln suspension geometry. With prancing horses and the Ferrari legend who needs downforce? LOL LOL
Ben you want "boaty" try taking my 69 Hemi charger up to 100 MPH on the freeway. Drives and brakes like the love boat and costs just as much.
