On this Porsche GT3, the idea was all function while in the car, no matter if it is on a track, or on a back road in the country. Our customer wanted to be able to take the car to the track, be safe and stay in the seat, while pushing the GT3 to its limits. To handle this a GMG RSR Roll Bar was installed to take care of safety and the Schroth Race Belts to keep the driver and passenger firmly in the GT3 factory seats. Of course, the other issue is making sure there aren't any issues to and from the track. To handle that an Escort Passport 9500ci was installed, hidden from the outside while still being able to be seen by the driver.

We started things off with the Passport radar system.



With this system the first thing to do was find a spot for the control and display panels. Keeping them in reach while also keeping them hidden. The center console was a perfect choice. The display was tucked neatly beneath the radio in the cubby. The position allowed the driver to see it but it could not be seen standing next to the car looking in.


The power/volume controller needed to be accessible from the drivers seat so a bracket was fabricated for the ashtray and then covered when closed.




The supplied bi-color LED let's you know the system is on when armed even when you can’t see the controls. This LED was mounted inside the dome light housing, easily visible to the driver. The green LED is lit when the system is armed and then turns red when there is an alert.

The radar sensor can be installed behind up to 1/4" of plastic so we mount these behind the bumpers and attach them to the bumper support with a bracket we fabricate. This protects the sensor in case of a light frontal impact.

The laser sensors have to have a clear view of the road ahead so they were mounted in the lower center grill, recessed inside the grill mesh.




All the wires for the radar and lasar components are threaded into the factory wiring harness:

The rear sensor was simply mounted to the tag frame and we ran the wiring behind the plate, behind the bumper and into the stock harness.



Part two of this build is all about safety: A roll bar and racing belts for the track. For this a GMG RSR Roll Bar and Schroth Racing belts were put to use.

To start things out the front seats were removed to make way for the cage to be installed.


Also the rear deck cover was removed to gain access to the shock mounts/roll bar mount area.

The rear under-matting is out of sight and would have sit OK but we decided to trim it in case the car was driven in "raw" form showing off the electronics shelf.




The carpet also had to be trimmed to accommodate the tubing. Factory RSR carpeting is an option as well.

While the cage was being installed the seats weren't just sitting around (I know bad pun), they were being prepped for the Schroth Belts.



"Some assembly required"....to start with, the cross bar was installed for the center lap belt. Some GT3's came equipped with them from the factory but with this one, we had to order them aftermarket. Also, on the passenger side, the control box for the air bag sensor has to be moved to clear the bar.

As you can see from the picture a relocation bracket was installed and everything still functions as did from the factory. Also, the stock seat belts are retained so the race belts don't have to be used for a trip to the store


After the seats were made ready they were re-installed into the GT3 and shoulder and lap belts were bolted into position.

Is that the recommend location for the front jammer heads? I was looking at getting them higher and between the head lights i.e in the front bumper top vent area but if this works then it will be easier to mount.
