996 GT3 Owners Help

Gents,

I'm getting closed to put in an offer for a 996 mk2 GT3. I'm trying to get feedbacks from owners in terms of what to look for, maintenance issues and most importantly your experience with Ceremic Brakes. Thanks so much in advanced!

Long

Hi - I assume you may already have purchased the car.
Just a point on the 996 ceramic brakes. They are fine for the road - and keep your alloys dust free. However, they are not that great for track use - can delaminate with heat build up.
If you are using the car for track use, I would suggest you take them off and store away, fit some decent steels, and then refit the ceramics if you come to sell the car again.

In case you haven’t bought the car yet. My experience with the ceramic breaks has been great as I don’t track the car at all. However, I have had a few unnerving experiences while traveling at high rates of uninterrupted speed on the freeway. When sudden stopping power is needed with little to no heat in the breaks you may find yourself waiting for them to bite which may lead to an overwhelming feeling of not being able to stop in time. Otherwise the search engine here on the site is your best friend.

I bought mine two years ago and car has over 50k miles now with nary an issue. I do not have the ceramic brakes and when I looked at other cars some owners replaced the pads and rotors to steel. My car had the rear main seal replaced and the coolant pipes had been done. The coolant pipe glue weakens over time and you have a large coolant dump. Both my cats were replaced under warranty too. Other than that car has been great!
