2010 997.2 GT3 Recall

members,

I received a letter in the mail from corporate about a recall concerning the Rear axle wheel hubs and a more stringent maintenance schedule.
There is also an attachment that states that all components of the central wheel lock must now be inspected AFTER EVERY RACE TRACK use.

1: has anyone else received this recall notice?
2: what does this actually pertain to?
3: Are members with this model now actually having their cars inspected after every race track outing?
4: what if I dont track my car...do I need to be concerned?
5: What kind of inspection are they talking about? just a visual inspection or do we have to take the car in to have them look at it after every race track event?

a bit alarmed,

moe.

Yes

Exactly what the notice says, 2010 GT3 center lock hubs

I usually use track support and even with experienced support and proper torque the old design can fail.. spectacularly. I would inspect after every event (see below).

4: what if I dont track my car...do I need to be concerned?
I suspect not, as long as you have always follow the CL procedure. It is a real procedure you have to follow not just sort of follow. The system is designed to work with proper grease and torque which basically prevents any movement of the wheel on the hub.

5: What kind of inspection are they talking about? just a visual inspection or do we have to take the car in to have them look at it after every race track event?
The inspection is outlined in a porsche document, you can likely find it somewhere on the net. It is a very specific multi-page document and one would not be able to properly inspection CL hubs without knowledge of it.

Note, if your car is not recalled, I should already have the later model CL hubs. There is some expectation that Porsche will release track inspection criteria for all CL cars at some point in the future.

Hope this helps.

Got the letter. Appointment for recall on Tuesday. Past history, track or not, recall in place. I'm told 11 hours of service time needed. New maintanice schedule for track use is of real significance.
