Painting My Wheels

1 Attachment(s)
I'm thinking of painting the wheels of my car black with a red borderline. What do you guys think? Appreciate your feedback.
I'm attaching a photoshoped pic of the wheels after painting.

Can someone here post that pic from a few months back of a black SGT with wheels painted a la sport techno factory paint option?> I thought it looked SICK

I'm no fashion expert, but the red and black clashes with the yellow calipers. The calipers and rotors neesd something metallic to transition them to the red car. Also the blue wheel nuts also clash.

If you like the blacked out look, just paint the rims black and also paint/coat the engine covers (whatever they are called) black also.

I am a fan of black rims, but I have never liked the stripe of color around the edges.

I just noticed you have a front plate, Your car is the first I have seen like that.

I normally like painted and custom finished wheels on all sports cars, but in the case of the CGT...the times I've seen the wheels re-done, it seems to make the car look "cheap". It's all subjective, of course. ;)

If msindi's referring to the same thing I think he is, it was a paint job that was somewhat of an homage to the old Fuchs wheels. I thought that was cool in concept, and if I were to paint those wheels, that's what I'd do. But I still think they look nicer in the stock color overall.

Hey, while you're at it, why not photoshop the wheels in several different options so there's a sampling to look at. This way, someone in the future can find it here online too and use it.

I think that the stock wheels (incl paint) is perfect for the CGT but to each his own I guess.

To be honest, my 13yrs old son did the photoshopping after almost begging him:mad: . I'll try and bribe him to do more different ones.:D

If you are handy with automotive paints its no big deal paint em or take em back to stock.
I re did my old TT wheels when they had curb rash. IF the CGT wheels are painted the same way as TT/GT3 wheels it would be no biggie. you just have to resand and respray and clearcoat.

is painting magnesium an issue? remember these arent alu alloys....

Anyone know the pic im talking about?

Why change something that looks so great to begin with?

Or are you afraid of blending in with all the other CGT's in the neighborhood? ;)

OldGuy Jul 13, 2005 12:05 PM

If the wheels are mag.- then every thing i said is useless

If you paint the wheels then you'll have to paint the grill mesh above the engine - which I think looks like crap in silver to begin wtih.

I love the black wheels. I'd pass on the red stripe, however.

If u want to be different then do it. otherwise i wouldn't mess with it.
