I dd a 07 gt3 for 4 yrs and 25k miles then switched to 13 gtr. No comparison re comfort. Porsche was very harsh and clutch was tiring in traffic. Wife wouldnt go in it and too low for nyc potholes. Once i got rid of runflats on gtr its like a regular car. Take it everywhere and occasionally even with 4 people. No experience w .2gt3 which might be better and should be in your budget. .1gt3 should be much less than $90k

Have driven r8 on street and loved it. Both engines are fine but stay away from sct. Gets my vote as dd vs gt3.

But independent of that, perhaps the upcoming, new Cayman GTS would be a good choice for the OP. Could well be a better track car than the R8V8, stick shift available and in his budget range.
Audi section to which I was referring was on this site. Wasn't going to join R8talk unless I bought the car. I waste enough time on forums as it is.

The thread I started was roughly two years ago...same time I test drove the R8 V8. And to elaborate on that thread, at the time, my Cayman S was worth approximately $30K, and the used R8 V8 was being sold for $90K. Most people who responded in that thread felt that the R8 V8 was not a $60K upgrade over the Cayman S. The R8 V10 was spoken of differently.

I agree with you that many people have switched to the R8 from a Porsche, but my experience has been they switch for the V10, not the V8. That's why I am specific when replying to this thread, and redundantly keep writing "R8 V8". The V10 is supposed to be incredible.

As for the Cayman GTS, I REALLY hope they make that thing, but it always seems to be a myth. Going to look for some more info on it, now. Another alternative for the OP might be a Carrera GTS...

Well had a 996T to a 997GT3rs / boxster spyder. 2013 GTR and now a 2014 R8 V8.

After owning a many cars, I realize purpose built cars are the best for the purpose. 8 out of 10 times my purpose is a relax cruise on weekends. I wanted a comfortable driver's car since I realize I rack up more miles on more comfortable cars.

I decided on a 2014 R8 v8. It's a combination of comfort, handling feel and many journalist like the V8 better due it being more balanced. I figured it was originally designed with a V8 it should handle better with a V8. I also realize I didn't drive the GTR much since it's an auto so decided to go with a manual. The new Cayman I had driven a few times and love the car. It's just a tad narrow and seems like something I can always add later if needed but the R8 manual may be extinct. I wanted the original design latest model before the redesign since I feel Audi did a fantastic job with this car during it's time.
