New Engine for my GT3
I guess I get a mulligan on my GT3..... Smart move - same thing happened on my old X5 4.8is when I got one of the first ones off the boat. Oh well - good thing I have others......
|
I see that all delivered 991 GT3's will get new motors. Has Porsche advised if they are going to do anything else for current owners? Like extended warranty or something?
|
Maybe I am jaded but minding care. Porsche was proactive and transparent. That's what I want. A few months of warranty is irrelevant because I trust if there is an issue after the warranty they will do the right thing. Integrity and confidence in Porsche

Gee you mean like how they have stepped up to replace the coolant return on the GT3 and turbo motor due to many failing catastrophically on the track? You mean like that? Oh yeah that's right i forgot they are still denying that's an issue on this motor despite many reports of them failing and dumping coolant all over the rear tires and leaving the engine absent the ability to continue. It's a 200 dollar part however this repair requires the motor to be removed.

Stef,
Have you had to pay for the car even though you could not drive it? Did they give you a loaner? |
I drove her 2000 miles. Am fortunate to have others. If the 200 bucks kills ya and the fact that being on the bleeding edge is a hassle then wait a year. Whatever. I buy em and drive em. Can't wait for my 918 in May. Warts and all.

Latest News from Porsche:
Porsche to replace GT3 engines due to fire risk By Peter Valdes-Dapena @peterdrives March 18, 2014: 5:58 PM ET Porsche will replace the engines in 785 high-performance sports cars because of a risk that the current engines could catch fire. The move was made in response to two engine fires in Porsche 911 GT3s. The GT3 is a track-oriented two-seat version of the 911 sports car. Prices for the car start at $130,000. It can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 195 miles per hour. The decision to replace the engines was made after Porsche engineers investigated two engine fires that occurred in Europe. Neither fire caused an accident or any injuries. Porsche had already warned owners last month to stop driving the cars and to have them picked up and taken to a Porsche dealer. Engineers discovered that the fires were caused by a loose rod inside the engine. The loose rod caused damage that then allowed lubricating oil to leak out and ignite. Related: GM recalls another 1.5 million vehicles The 785 cars that will have their engines changed include 408 in the United States. The move doesn't involve any other Porsche models beyond the 911 GT3. Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group |

It could be worse. It could be GM. Seriously tho Porsche has matured. The boxster launch was basically two decades ago ...
|
They didn't handle the centerlock mess very well...poorly designed system that was forced on GT3 buyers. It's found to be problematic for the intense use that it is supposedly born of...what do they do? Wash their hands of it with an after delivery revised maintenance schedule. When I called PCNA to discuss the maintenance revision, they told me it was of no real consequence since most GT3 owners don't track their cars...the cars that they so firmly market as a "race" car.
Not very mature. |
I am happy to report that there are other sports car company from which you may choose. Not sure any have better stats and fewer issues. I won't buy an Audi ever because of poor customer service and warranty issues but acknowledge they make darn good cars. I am careful not to paint a manufacturer with a broad brush. The grass is NOT greener on the other side of the car world. I respect you have an axe to grind I own a few other Marques but find Porsche to be consistently the best in terms of quality, engineering and customer service.
You mileage obviously varies :-). Good thin we aren't talking life critical systems |
Don't have an axe to grind so much. Just reporting facts that are not so rosy. Although I am sadly inclined to agree that P are probably the best alternative at the end of the day.
|
I agree that Porsche is the segment leader but I am still disappointed that this issue occurred in the first place. BTW, I love my A8L it's truly a beast wrapped in a velvet suit. Here in Atlanta I get stellar customer service at Jim Ellis Audi.

it's disconcerting. I still don't see the reason why a car I pay well into 6 figures for can't perform just on the street as reliably as a car that costs a fraction of the amount.
