Thinking about purchasing a 997.2 GT3RS
So as the title states, I'm thinking about purchasing a 997.2 GT3RS and getting rid of my 2010 997.2 C2S PDK Cab.
I have a few questions though:
1. Will maintenance be all that much more than the C2S with an RS? I know brakes will be more expensive(I'm looking at steel rotor cars), and the addition of clutch replacements will add cost. But I've already become used to the cost of replacing 235/35 and 305/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 2's....I plan on switching the Pilot Super Sports with this next car.
2. Are they generally reliable? Should I be looking out for certain issues? I've heard about the coolant leaks from the sharkwerks tuning guide.
3. Should I think about looking for a car with pccb's instead of steel rotors? I probably won't hit the track often, but I go through normal pads and rotors rather quickly.
4. Any idea on what an untracked GT3RS with steel rotors, the front axle lift, nav, and bucket seats with around 10-15k miles would cost me?
5. If you know of anyone who wants a very clean 2010 911 C2S PDK Cab with under 14k miles, could someone let me know?
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

They are amazing cars. With minimal track use it shouldn't be much more than what you're use to from a maintenance standpoint. From what I've read, they are extremely reliable and as you might expect the outgoing .2 RS is very refined.
Problem = prices on these cars have skyrocketed that past 18 months. You can now expect to pay 50-75k more that what you could've in Jan of '13. If money is of no concern then go grab one with low miles and enjoy. If you're like so many who could've snagged one at the aforementioned price 18 months ago but didn't it's just too painful to now pay that premium. Might as well buy a brand new 991 once the dust settles from the engine swaps. Nonetheless it will be interesting to see how the value settles in a few years from now on these units (e.g. low mileage, very little track duty, etc.).

1. If you rarely track, maintenance costs should be similar. Off the top of my head, costs: Fr rotors: $1000/set; Pads: $350/set. Tires will wear similar to now if you are mostly street.
2. GT3's are similarly reliable to the regular 997. The drivetrain even stronger. How many miles a year are you planning? The coolant "leaks" commonly referred to are the separation of coolant pipe joints into the engine. They are epoxy welded at the factory and break down over time. For a street driven car, it is not much of a concern. It mostly effects track driven cars. Leaks are also rare in .2 cars. It could be because (as Porsche asserts) that they fixed the problem. It could also be that the mileage on these cars is mostly too low to be affected.
3. For a mostly street driven car, PCCB's are great. For a car that sees track time, I'd recommend steels. PCCB replacements are about $16K for all 4 corners. You can always opt for steel replacement rotors though.
4. Depending on mileage, conditions, options, I'd guess $140-160K in the current market. There are several for sale on Rennlist. PS There is also a much more active GT3 community there vs. here.
5. Post it in the classifieds here and on Rennlist. Also on Excellence-mag.com
IF you haven't already driven one, I highly recommend a test drive to make sure a GT3 is for you. I've yet to see a person test drive one who wasn't immediately hooked. Have your money ready to buy.
Just sold my 2010 gt3 rs. I had a couple of oil changes, and that is it. The cars are bullet proof. i put 8,000 miles on it and love every minute of it. You cannot go wrong with the car. Best car i have ever driven. Brakes were crazy, and the handling was off the charts.
