Front Brake Cooling??
Front Brake Cooling??
I need more cooling so I don't crack my steel rotors AGAIN! Is there a fix or upgrade with a aftermarket or cup part and if so who has it? Have any of you other D.E. or track day cars had the problem? Thanks for ANY thoughts.
You may need an upgraded rotor too!
Heat certainly is the major contributing factor to cracking a rotor. The GT3 comes with the air scoop. It normally does the job to avoid cracking rotors.
Nevertheless, you may be a very advanced driver with a skilled braking foot. The one piece steel rotors can be subject to cracking and an early death b/o the lack of "give" between the bolted hat and the super hot rotor section. These two parts of the rotor reach very differing temps and expand at differing rates. This delta on a one piece rotor leads to high heat on the rotor face and a lesser temp on the hat section. This typically leads to warping and cracking. A two piece floating rotor may eliminate these problems by relieving the stresses caused by the uneven expansion between the ring section and the hat section. It'll also reduce the unsprung weight and rotating mass vs the OE rotor. Equals better performance in handling and braking.
Another benefit many don't consider is the two piece rotor's aluminum hat doesn't transmit the super high temps to the hub bearings nearly as readily. Many use temp strips on different sections of the rotor and are amazed at the reduced temps at the hub itself.
Contact Phil Anderson at Suncoast. It's my understanding he has a pair of GT3 two piece Pro-Stop Race Ready rotors with NAS fasteners on sale. They are OE dimensions and they are slotted only--no holes. They are also stress relieved. His number is 877 923 1700. I'm kinda certain of the availability of the rotors as I sent them to him.
Any Q's give me a PM or call: 443 801 2533.
Best Regards,
