Car and Driver Sept. 06
Car and Driver Sept. 06
In the latest issue of C&D there is a comparison of the 911 Turbo, the Z06, and the Ferrari F430. Shows the Z06 is a force to be reckoned with, and considering the price differential is the best bang for the buck in the automotive industry. The mega-buck Ferrari got the nod as #1, the P car was #2, followed by the Z06.
I certainly take issue with their rating "system'. At the end of their test they throw in a VERY subjective "gotta-have-it" and "fun-to-drive" section that completely distorts the objective findings in other areas of the comparison.
Read the article and see what you think.
I was proud to see how well the Porsche did in all areas of the "test".

I recently drove a new Z06 for the first time on a small stretch of mountain road. It is definitely really nice, but the response from the car wasn't as instant as i'd like. It felt like steering response came a few hundred milliseconds after i turned the wheel. That is, it went exactly where I told it to go, and it was fairly flat, it just didn't feel like it was listening to me instantly (like the GT), it needed to 'ok' my decisions first.
Anyway, that's my take. Of course, this is compared to the GT, which to me is like a laser-sharpened scalpel compared to the sharp knife of the Z06.

I read the article. For my money it's the 997 TT all the way, even though they found it a bit sterile. The F430 is my #2, Z06 would be last.
I watched a Top Gear comparison of the Z06 vs. 575M. The conclusion, and I'm paraphrasing, was that the Z06 was brilliant on the track but rubbish on the road. Even though the Ferrari cost almost 4 times as much, it was 4 times better to live with than the Corvette.
As a general rule you never buy the first year. I'm sure as the Z06 is developed it will become more formidable off the track. I'm very interested to see what happens when the "Blue Devil" Z06 is launched.

For half the price of the TT and a 1/3 of the red car, the ZO6 smacks much ***.
I respect that the Ferrari might be funner and the TT the best sports car to drive in inclement conditions, but as far as outright performance, ZO6 wins.
