opinions on going 19" on gt3
 

hi,
right now im using my stock 18" wheels for the track. im looking at some 19" wheels and tires for everyday use on my gt3. although, i would like some opinions on going this size. any rubbing issues, performance issues etc..

any help would be great! thanks

why?? i need reasons.... :D i see 996's goin 19" all day long. i want a good looking wheel for everyday. im at the track atleast every weekend so my 18" track wheels are gettin kinda beat up.

The car was made for 18's.
The bling factor of 19's will just screw up the ride.
Extra weight, rubbing and bumpy ride as is it's not bad enough as it is.
The 997GT3 has 19's stock, but if you look close at the rear, the wheel well is cut alot higher than on the 996 to oblige the larger wheel.
The car also has more power to get the big 19 around and I assume the suspension allows the larger wheel as well.

There are other options for 18"s for the GT3. There is absolutely no good advantage to a 19" on a GT3 besides bling. 18" bling works for me.:D Like these BBS.

Nah dude, those are not mine. (Just pics I had on my comp). They are the wheels I am going to get. Mine will be black though.

Golde is actually pretty racey, but black on your car sounds good.

I'm with Vader on this one. Porsche has engineered the 996 GT3 around 18's. 19's will more than likely throw off the suspension dynamics. Why pay more $$ to have less performance? Plenty of nice 18" setups to get the bling you desire. Just my 2 cents.

Some good and bad points in the above responses.

Which 19's were you looking at buying?

Points to consider-
- properly inflated 19's with the proper wheels/ suspension will perform on par with 18's!
- to get the 19" tire/ wheel combo weight down to the 18" tire/ wheel combo your 19" will need to be really lite- sub18 lbs!
- 19" tires put a tremendous lateral load on the wheels due to smaller sidewalls. "Flexy" wheels will amplify that condition. Suspension components must be up to the task as well. Wheel bearings, ball joints, control arm bushings and shocks should be brought up to a level above "stock".
- The ride on 19's will be about the same as 18's.
- Its not really the size that is a problem since most of your overall diameter and width with the 19's is equal to the OD of 18's, but in most cases its the added unsprung weight added to each corner of the car that gives the feeling of instability. As little as 5lbs added to each corner will affect the cornering dynamics.

Yes the 19's look nice, but for the same or worse performance or unless you are planning to install monster brakes that will not fit with your 18's, it may be cost effective to stick with the 18's!

Caragraphic ran 19's on their race car and it turned out pretty well. There was an excellence article about their car a while back. Sorry I'm not more help.
