6088tts can you give us a quick review of the 997 gt3? How loud is cockpit noise? How does it compare to the 996 gt3? Performance?

I should have been more specific in the beginning and made the title of the thread "Best 6 Cylinder Engine in the Word"

My vote goes to the Bmw e46 engine (s54) and Porsche Gt3.

For the money, the VQ 3.5 is pretty decent (although the rods are thin)

ya i guess eh... but ya... i have to agree with you... the M3 engines are great too... but between the 996GT3 and the 997GT3 i would think the 996GT3 is a even more raw car due to no traction control, no sunroof, but with the 18in wheels and no PASM on the car, the 997GT3 should ride stiffer and handle alittle better due to wider track and etc... all i can say is the 997GT3 is hands down the best Porsche i've owned or driven... PERIOD!

Maybe I'm a little biased because I own one, but I think for sub-$80,000 or so the Honda S2000 (2.0L) F20C is one of the best engines. It is amazing.

i would def agree with that. Porsche's flat 6 and the m series bmw inline 6 are the two pinnacle pieces of 6 cylinder engineering in the world and always will be. i do thing the skyline motor is a very nice 6 cylinder as well that would be right there with Porsche and bmw.

with the same 3.6 liters, the 360 Challenge Stradale puts 425Hp and 8,500 rpm. BTW, the engine is located on the right place. It sound much better than any GT3 engine.

Also the M5/M6 engine should be considered.

And the 55K Merc one is a spectacular engine as well.
It's hard to choose for me!
Agreed with that

But the 997GT3 is a marvel, i mean its perfect in every way, and the performance is astonishing so far!

second that... i think Porsche sounds more mechanical than the Ferraris... i have to agree that the 360CS has a great sexy sounding exhaust... but it sounds not as techinical as the GT3 engine... and besides when the 360CS went on the dyno it was making no where near 425hp... more like 385 which matches the 996GT3 in HP and it was not as fast as the GT3 in a straight line or in the bends...

the GT3 engine & exhaust sound like a different animal above 5,000 rpm. it sounds so solid.

hmm... yeah ok, the BMW McLaren F1 engine is pretty hard to top!

while we're at it, the AMG engine in the Pagani Zonda is quite a piece of work as well!

Yeah, the Zonda is my favourite car, but I posted the F1 engine because it has greater historical importance and was better for it's time. The LM engine is still the most powerful N/A engine in the world today!
The Zonda's engine characteristics suit my taste perfectly, such a great engine. Also the best sounding engine in the world, imo!

Clubsport Version: 650hp, 780nm, 7291cc, 250kg and the best sound in the world!
