Sport chrono package on GT3RS?

Can anyone tell me whether the sport chrono package would add any performance functionality to the GT3RS? I believe on the Carrera S it adds a sport mode which includes the suspension adjustment and different throttle mapping. But does it offer anything more than a dash-mounted gauge and some user-programmable settings on the GT3RS?

Thanks.

Kurt,
no it doesn't add any performance to the car. however, i think it's a relatively cheap option compare to other usless things u can order. unless u think it's ugly, which some people do, i'd suggest u order it. sometimes i find it's fun timing myself from point A to Point B.

Yeah, I guess it's just personal taste. I looked back through a couple videos posted online of the GT3RS and the cars in those videos didn't have the sport chrono dash gauge. But the car shown at the Paris auto show did have it.

I was trying to determine if it was a "must have" option, but that doesn't appear to be the case, unless you want navigation or something.

It is basically a lap timer - when in conjunction with PCM you can set a target lap time and it will show green, until you cross the target time, then it goes red. Also some data capability in PCM, but I don't have any details on that yet.

I initially ordered it, then cancelled it, as I just think the dash looks better without it. Everything I have read, has given no indication of any performance advantage of the dash mounted piece. It serves a function and provides a different look.

It is a nice to have, not a need to have!

It doesn't add any power other than time keeping on the GT3/GT3 RS unlike the 997 and the turbo. I didn't order it.

Thumbs up Sports Chrono on 997GT-3

I have a Porsche service info manual on the 997 GT-3. It states the followiing, " The new GT-3 comes standard with sports functions which are activated by the "sports button" (This is standard). The Chron Package is reduced to teh analogue stop watch only" Although the $690 price is O.K. but if you do not order navigation, it is a waste of money. My GT-3 is scheduled for December 5th build, hopefully it will arrive before Christmas.

Its actually quite obtrusive looking, if it enhanced performance then I would say ok but since not, no interest.
