If only video came close to capturing the look and feel going into turn 1 at speed ... this does it no justice but you get the idea.

That is just fantastically poor judgement on the Viper. Taking a racing line (whether he intended to or not) is ludicrous and dangerous, especially in traffic. Thanks for sharing that Darwinian moment!

That GT3 is seriously fast. I can't imagine what it will run once it's broken in and pushed hard. Was he running Michelin PSCs or another tire?
He was running Mich. PSC's. I also ran them on mine this weekend and WOWSA what a tire. They stick like glue on the track. Taking turn 1 and turn 6 at Road Atlanta at a speed faster than imaginable was amazing. I could feel my brain shifting from side to side in my skull. It was like the car was ON A RAIL with no thought of letting go. In fact when you come into the pits, any bit of gravel or debris in the pit area would just stick to the hot tires (only 55 degrees outside) as if they were coated.

I think it was more of the Corvette's fault. first mistake he overbraked, second mistake he changed his line and started to close on apex. I mean c'mon he knew the Viper was right behind him on the straight away. I wouldn't call him an idiot. There is a difference between performance schools and open track days. if you are attending a open trackday you should expect few casulties.

Well #1 the vette was flying into turn 1, about 10-20mph faster than the turn can handle so he had to brake harder just to be able to make the turn. The line to make sure you apex that turn correctly is where the Porsche is (filming). Then #2 the Viper comes into the turn on an even tighter line and about 5mph faster yet ... a very unsafe line even if you were running alone. The driver running up on the **** of the guy in front is repsonsible for not tagging and spinning him out. This is true on the track or on the street. EVERYONE watching knew the Viper was making an AZZinine move ... nobody else came even close to attempting that line all day. Then this idiot tries it amidst traffic, putting everyone in danger. He probably think he's an amazing driver by keeping it from nosing straight into the inside wall or spinning into the far wall. I say it was shear white knuckle luck that kept him from crashing and burning. If you think the vette is at fault ... just know for the record that the Viper driver was booted from Road Atlanta after this "infraction" on Saturday and the Panoz racing school isn't welcoming him back. Good riddance!!!!!!

Wrong. It wasn't a "RACE" was it ?? If not, you have to ALWAYS assume someone else on the track is not pushing it as hard as you are and leave the appropriate room for error. The Viper moron was pushing it way to hard and clearly ran out of talent before he ran out of road. Too bad he didn't stuff it in the wall - that's the only thing that makes idiots like that change the way they drive. I mean come on..did you see how hard he was yanking on the wheel ???? Mr. NOT smooth award for him

Looked like the Viper was doing the infamous "death wiggle" whilest under hard braking; add the fact of poor balance/suspension setup of the car (too much weight in front end, exacerbated by heavy braking) = no rear traction.

Not sure about other people's experiences, but at DEs and track days, I have seen more Vipers, Cobras and Vettes go off more than any other car. Few Porsches going off. DNA differences???

Viper driver is a moron. You can always spot them immediately. Hate being on the track with people like that. Makes you just want to pull into the pits and wait until they crash before going back out.

Hey guys ... here are a few quick clips of me coming down the front stretch at Road Atlanta last week (the silver 996TT). Man what a track. If you've never been on it I highly recommend a trip. We'll be tracking there several times in 2007 so get ahold of me if you are interested in running with us.

http://www.carolinaspeedzone.com/roa...06/videos.html

The 3 clips (identical 996TT photos) near the top of this page will open up your Windows Media player. I had some format problems with these for some reason so older versions of Media Player may not run them.

Have a great weekend.
