Test: Porsche 997 GT3 RS vs Corvette Z06

I was unaware that Porsche was restricted to a 3.6L engine when designing a performance oriented car. That explains a lot of things.Originally Posted by 6088TTS
why would we be sad... the engine in the Corvette is TWICE the displacement of the 3.6L... and its around 90hp more... and around the same weight... if the Porsche had such advantages it would SMOKE the vette more than 5-10seconds FOR SURE!!! and what did the vette do??? it lost the race... that just explains how much BETTER the Porsche chassis and powertrain is compared to the Z06... Alan
I guess the test just shows how much BETTER the GM powerplant is compared to the GT3...

OK, what have you been smoking a GM powerplant "better" than a Porsche powerplant, how do YOU come to that conclusion?
Please do share.

Well since the Porsche is better at everything else and still runs the same lap times, I figured it was an easy conclusion.Originally Posted by BBGT2

What was an easy conclusion, that the GM powerplant is better?
(Same question BTW)
Again you said the GM powerplant is better, I ask you HOW is it better?

And "IF" the Z06 came with the same tires used on the RS, the Z06 would have SMOKED the RS around that roadcourse FOR SURE!!!Originally Posted by 6088TTS

Lets not talk about design as that is completely subjective. In my eyes, ANY Porsche for the exception of the CGT looks like an oval turd. The Z06 looks 10x meaner, 10x sleeker, and 10x more aggressive. You see how silly that sounds? Ya, because looks are subjective, so lets not talk about that.Originally Posted by 6088TTS
because a Porsche will always be a Porsche... its design..

I know, and to think that the RS with R compunds could barely get away from a car that still uses leafsprings and is on the factory runflats is even more sad for the RS..Originally Posted by 6088TTS
for god sake the Z06 still uses Leaf Springs in its rear suspension setup!!!

best bang for your buck is the z06. If you don't care about the depreciation of the GM product, then you could buy 2 z06's for the price of a RS.
But....
70lbs lighter
90 more hp
170 lb-ft of torque
7-liter v8
you would think that this would spank the RS
IMO, the results really don't make the z06 look that great!

Hmnn, Porsche's don't depreciate? What about the CGT which is has lost about 1/3 of its value (you could buy a Z06 with the depreciation), the GT2 which has lost about the same and any 911 whether a turbo or the slower models all of whom have taken significant hits. Originally Posted by zona

Well the Z06 never ever needs air in their super duper tires, and Porsche's have to check their air pressure's every week.
Z06 wins.
Mods shut this thread down, its getting very boring and stupid.

This is where the price difference comes in, with a porsche you pay for better suspension, better tires, better build quality, better track reliability, better braking (reliable), stronger transmission and drivetrain higher quality materials.Originally Posted by 6088TTS

When it comes to the track all these things are important because they are things you would end up replacing on the vette or would have to replace from the get go.

Um yeah, so the Z06 didnt go through this when it was new? And the markups?Originally Posted by Scottsbmw

just do the math my friend... a 3.6L H6 vs. 7.0L V8... hummm... i think the Porsche takes it hands down!!! Originally Posted by kumar75150

it better since its the same weight, twice the displacement, and 90more HP... if the Z06 with Rs cannot beat the RS then Chevy shouldn't even be making cars... would be a disgrace to automobile manufacturing...Originally Posted by SCvet00

that oval turd you're talking about is the worlds most renown sports car or THE BENCH MARK for sports cars... I personally think the Z06 is the ugliest piece of **** there is out there... and thats just my opinion... Originally Posted by SCvet00
