Nope, I don’t think they made many, or any with it. But it has some sort of active clutch management for shifting from what I’ve gathered. I guess they must have applied the type of technology you see in the lemans GT2 class cars, but for the street. It doesn’t stall from a dead stop no matter what you do and you can sift without the clutch and not ruin any dogs or syncros. I guess you get what you pay for.

beg to disagree. reason I asked if it was a tip, is that I thought for a moment it could be this RT12, which I saw in Pfaffenhausen last fall. it has an absolutely lovely shade of grey which i'd never seen on a Porsche before. the color is called "Maserati Grey", and believe me, these photos don't do it justice.

the car is also a tiptronic, as you can see from this pic. you'll also notice the rather unique interior color combo. again, the picture doesn't do it justice. i don't know that i would have ordered my car with this color scheme, but believe me, it DOES work, even if it takes some getting used to.

i'm not aware of any active clutch management or new technology being employed on the RT12's. i can understand where this impression may have come from however, because on the video on the Ruf Japan website, it clearly shows head Ruf test driver HP Lieb demonstrating an RT12 to the press, where he pulls away from a dead stop just by putting the car in 1st gear, and then letting off the clutch, foot completely off the gas pedal. then he selects 2nd, and with foot still off the gas, the car just continue on unfussed, almost as if it was an auto. he even steps on the brake, slowing the car down, and it doesn't stall. i don't think he slowed to a dead stop though...

on our car, i've tried this myself several times. you can indeed just put it in 1st, and then just let off the clutch and the car behaves precisely as demonstrated in the video.

however, it is not true that you it won't stall no matter what you do. if you just jump off the clutch very quickly, you can stall the car. likewise, you do have to clutch in to shift gears.

...unless Ruf have introduced some completely new technology in the RT12 since last September anyway.

while i don't think there's any special clutch or transmission mechanism being employed by the RT12, it is a great testament to Ruf's ethos of making supercars that are genuinely supremely easy to drive. i've said it before-- this car is a lot easier to drive in bumper to bumper city traffic than even our 100% stock 996TT.

that’s the best part about the company, if you have the cash they’ll do just about anything to it. I thought that the new 12 had a similar management that carried over a few of the tricks from racing. The lemans cars are more reliant on it however because for the long races the majority of teams are running a super simple dog change, straight cut gear package. They can’t shift without the computer. One car last year had a gear selector interface malfunction and it cost him the first in the Gt2. I would take a dog change over a tiptronic any day because oh how simple and fun to drive they are.
