Sport Auto Supertest: Porsche 997 GT3 RS
Good research Erik, It would appear to me that this does justify the additional $34K especially since it is so harsh for the average streets. Good info and thanks for looking out for the family...
Guys be careful with the numbers.
In this article the Gt3 and the RS posted identical 0-200 km/h times.
The same magazine when they tested each car separately a few months ago got completely different results.
In those tests the GT3 achieved 13.9 sec to 0-200 km/h and the RS achieved 13.5 to 0-200 km/h.
Basically if this article came out first and the individual articles came out second we'd be talking about how good the RS really is.
If you are a member at rennlist do a search there. The articles are there posted by NJ-GT back in early november or late october. The scans are too big for me to attach here.
Also with Sport Auto's test they only tracked the RS that day. Further it wasn't a closed course. Further Sport Auto could not drive corner 13 at full speed b/c of it not being a closed course - at corner 13 they have to slow down, this is where the start/exit and pit lane is.
The 996GT3 and RS are a great value, if I had a 996GT3RS I would prefer it. But the 997GT3 and GT3RS are faster than the 2 of them, hands down.
You have to stick to Walter Rohl's time when comparing.
See Excellence February 2007 pg 124
"Walter Rohrl covered a lap at the RING - including passing 5 cars (b/c it was a public day THEY DID NOT CLOSE THE COURSE FOR PORSCHE 0 in 7:42. That day he also drove a Carrera GT to 7:37 in the same conditions."
We all know the quickest time for Walter in the GT was 7:32 at the RING. Therefore he knows the RS can do it in a quicker time than 7:42 if the course was closed just for him.
Sport Auto's figures are just another set of figures. They may be correct for all those conditions that day, for that driver for that public day at the ring, but they ARE FAR from being definitive or significant.
So anyone who has a 996GT3 your car is great, but don't believe that the RS is on par with the 997GT3 or your GT3 b/c it just isn't. Sorry.

Great article, thanks for posting Erik.
I just thought it would be interesting to compare my readings from my testing vs the Sport Auto test. The launch was not as aggressive as theirs it seems. Test was done on the track with no intention to record fastest acceleration runs. One person on board, half a tank of fuel, steel brakes.
My readings:
0-100 km/h in 4.54 secs.
0-120 km/h in 5.66 secs.
0-140 km/h in 7.36 secs.
0-160 km/h in 9.11 secs.
0-180 km/h in 11.1 secs.
0-200 km/h in 14.06 secs.
0-220km/h in 16.74 secs.
Fastest 60-130mph: 10.7 secs.
Fastest 100-200kph:9.18 secs
Sport Auto Readings:
0-100 km/h in 4.3 secs.
0-120 km/h in 5.6 secs.
0-140 km/h in 7.5 secs.
0-160 km/h in 9.2 secs.
0-180 km/h in 11.1 secs.
0-200 km/h in 14.0 secs
100-200Km/h in 9.7 secs.
Amazing consistency, except that my best 100-200kph was 0.5 seconds faster than Sport Auto, which is somewhat substantial.
Maximum recorded Lateral acceleration was 1.4Gs with stock setup and 38PSI hot pressure in the MPSCs.

I would digest all published road test results carefully. While I realize that these two cars are pretty close in track comparison, a few less pounds and a wider rear track will make a difference. Exact times don't make sense to me.
