997 GT3 Roll Bar

Awaiting my new 997 GT3. Still undecided about the roll bar. Anybody have a GMG bar or Das Sport Roll Bar installed? Also, there appears to be a new Porsche bar for the 997. I don't know if the Porsche bar is worth the cost since it's not as substantial as the other choices.

I'm waiting on the DAS bar. I should have it in a week or two. I'm keeping a list of my mods here:

Unfortunately the GMG bar does not fit the 997 GT3, it needs to be reduced about 5mm in size to make for an acceptable and practical installation.

Hopefully they will be shipping a new bar soon because the old one doesn't work and can lead to installation problems and damage. It's a pity, because their bar has nice features; also you might want to check out TCDesigns as they do beautiful custom stuff as well.

Gentleman

To clear any confusion with this installation. The bar does fit however it is a very tight one. We have fitted the bar to several Gt3's and 997TT's as well as normall 997's.

The facility fitting the bar admitted never having done this work before and having problems with the installation. We have re-checked the jig and it is correct .

To be 100% certain there isnt a problem with the bar we are shipping a new one to the customer.

Should anyone have any questions or need installation help please do not hesitate to contact us directly 714-432-1582

I have a 997 GT3 arriving next week and I will take detailed pictures of the installation process and post up for everyone to see.

To make potential purchasers aware, it is so close to the head lining it may cause premature wear, and unnecessary expense in installation, a headache in more ways than one.

Again, GMC makes a nice bar, just make sure you know the fit and installation problems (and costs upfront).

As always:

Caveat Emptor!

Puting a bar in is never easy. Got to have great installers. ...and if you're putting a bar in the car, are you really worried about wear to the headliner? (I wouldn't be.)

Also, I'd not single GMG out on this. I've seen a lot of differing installs on the same bars in the same cars -- depending on the expertise of the shop. The first DAS Sport bar I saw in a 911 looked like it was installed by a blind logger with a rusty chainsaw.

In my opinion, if you're doing any kind of serious track prep:

1) Be prepared for unexpected costs. Things like roll bars are not "Plug and Play" (or even "Bolt and Drive")

2) Be prepared for the installations to take longer than planned and require more cutting than you expect.

3) Always, always, always make sure that your race shop has a genius welder (or access to one). You never know when you'll need it.

4) Should be concerned with safety and performance (in that order) above anything else. (including headliner wear or a working radio, heat, GPS -- whatever)

Just my $0.02 and again, congrats Fabryce for standing behind your product and doing the right thing.
