why is everyone so surprized. They are a car dealership correct. I have about as much respect for the car business as the Mortgage business. Make a proffit by screwing your customer out of as much cash as possible. I will not go into details but I was treated like **** at 4 dealerships trying to find my GT3. I almost lost the one I have becuase I would not Lease it from them????

Deposits mean nothing in the car business. Sure people back out that is all part of being in business. I took good faith deposits on 25 lots in my new subdivision. I could have sold them 10 times. I honored the deposits. he back out, economy goes sideways, I am out a few hundred grand. Am I pissed, not realy just part of doing business.

For some reason the "Car Business" has it's own set of standards. Saturn to Bently they are all the same. Porsche is one of the worst I have dealt with.

This is coming from a guy that made plenty of $$$ selling cars. It is what it is.

Bwine has made an error in this case and would be STUPID not to make this right, especially as its been brought to light in a public forum with thousands and thousands of Porsche owners and fanatics.
I would say a local customer is more valuable than someone on the other side of the country. In pure business terms (looking into the future), it was the better move. In emotional terms, Brandywine messed up a bit. I believe the opp. cost of foregoing Chris's deal will be better for the dealership in the long run.

We also are not 100% sure that everyone at Bwine KNEW the car was being held for Chris. There are many grey areas that we bystanders are unaware of. My post was just a hypothetical.

And one more thing, with the way Brandywine does business, it has a great client-base so don't act like this ONE problem is the ruination of the place.

I've done enough hijacking and posting about a moot point in this thread...

Everyone makes mistakes and it's how you make amends that matters. The bad news here is it took a post to get some action, rather than the dealership or GM to do something based upon the initial calls. Also, Dutch made a few comments that alienated some members, which probably weren't meant to be that way. This may still turn out OK but I'll be interested to find out how it goes. One thing this does prove is that we can help each other out as a group when just being an individual was seemingly going nowhere.

It was simply the right business move, was it not?

BTW, we've bought a Cayenne S and TT cab from Brandywine and both purchases were fantastic.

This statement reminds me of the Jerry Seinfeld episode where he reserves a rental car and when he arrives to pick it up they had rented his car to someone else. Remember the line, "Then what do you reserve a car for?" "You can take reservations all day and they mean nothing?" I guess a deposit in this case means the same thing. When I bought my '05 GT3 at Champion, I called and negotiated a price, left a deposit, flew down, consumated the deal and had the car shipped up. No issues, but then it was a 996 and there wasn't any hysteria over the car, but that's no excuse.

I am in no way defending BW, however they did say they were looking for a car for him. Maybe "making right" will be finding a car and selling for the "right" price.

I have never bought a thing from BW, Whether I do or not will probably be determined by how this whole thing plays out.

You guys need to lighten up a bit. It's like watching a bunch of teenage girls fight.
And yes I lost a car with a credit card deposit of 5K only a few months ago, get over it. They made a mistake and they will do their best to reconcile.

I say this to every dealer who sponsors the forum, designate one representative from your dealership to deal with the forum, things will go much more smoothly that way.

I guess DJ you can use this thread as evidence to future sponsors on the life of bad business practices and how the Internet can effect your business in the future.

Wow just how many people were supposedly promised this car? When it became available I contacted Kyle immediately and he told me that if I had the cash ready to go and was a "true player" the car was mine. I was a little put off by this because the tone seemed disrespectful but I let it go because the car is tough to find and this seemed like a great deal. When I emailed him back I was met with the response that the guy who originally ordered the car changed his mind and decided to buy it after all. Now I'm seeing that someone else bought the car? This is very shady business practice, I'll steer clear of them from now on.

If you are a dealer, I think the fall out on people buying GT3's is very high. I know a couple of guys that have multiple deposits out and will take the first one that comes in. The other deposits will be cancelled. I also know a couple of guys that always seem to have a deposit out on the latest "hot car" just so they can say they have one on order.

When the car shows up, the dealer starts going through the list and the process can get pretty taxed. Here in dinky Boulder I know of a GT3 that went through three people before they finally had a real buyer. Much confusion in the process.

Not trying defend the dealer but I do see how things can get crossways if not carefully managed.

You made a verbal contract with him, but unfortunately, because it involves the sales of goods $500 or more, it is not enforcible without something in writing. That could be a letter acknowledging the contract or anything really that makes reference to the contract.

In the future, remember to have something in writing.

I really feel your pain Mike I too have been screwed over by Brandywine. About 3 weeks ago I had an appointment to have one of my Cargraphic rear coilovers ajusted plus a couple of other things like ABS and PSM lights on. I drove almost 3 hours to get there from NJ because I had heard that they had a complete know how of aftermarket parts and had the capeability of dealing with my problem specially since my car 01 996 cab is totally anything but stock, from a complete Cargraphic exaust, headers boxes and cats and chipped in Germany, a new RSS phelum, Cargraphis 3 piece wheels, body kit, roll bar, GT3 seats, 5 point hardness, ect. Well once I got there about 9:05 AM immediately I felt a little uncomfortable, the service writer was very unexperienced and that got me nervous. There are only two desks with 2 service writers however Erik the guy I had spoke to on the phone a couple of times when I called to make my appointment was walking around the building instead of helping me, there were other people ahead of me while two other customers on the side were ticked off because their loaner cars took a long time to come. In the meantime I finally got to get my turn and after speaking with the service writer I felt really uncomfortable he seemed to know very little about Porsche cars. I sat down in the waiting area because I was going to wait for my car. Four hours went by and I asked the service writer how much longer it will be, he said I will check with the tech and let you know well that took over one hour and still had not much to say except it seemed that they got 2 codes for my the PSM and ABS lights. I was there a total of 7 hours and they had done ZERO to my car. I drove 3 hours one way specially for my coil over
any Porsche dealer could of done the routine check on the dash lights and they never even touched the coil over. The service manager along with their techs are totally incompedent I left very pissed off and had to drive another 3 hours home. They wasted a complete Friday of my life. I called Porsche of North America and complained. Hopefully they will not get any more alotments of GT3's because they do not deserve it. I live in Somerset county NJ and purchased both my Porsche cars from Ray Catena in Edison NJ, now there is a real dealer their service dept. is 2nd to none however they are strictly Porsche parts no after market stuff. Good luck my friend I know that
Midnight Blue GT3 is out there waiting for you to get it and it will be from a good Porsche dealer not the idiots at Brandywine. I really do not know how they are a certified Porsche dealer, maybe Porsche of North America should send some of their people in there and check them out. I will never buy recommend them or buy parts from them again.
Mike
