997 Gt3/RS harness installation

Hey guys!

We just picked up the rs today and have tried to install the harnesses, no problems until we tried to work out the shoulder harnesses, as there is no where for them to be connected to on the car.

Anyone any ideas?

thanks!

very best,
adam

Are you mounting a 6-point harness on the GT3? Do you have a roll bar?

You need a rollbar installed for the shoulder straps. Without that, one, you cant mount the shoulder straps, and second, it's flat out dangerous to use harnesses without it. In case of roll over, your body is securely strapped to the seat. If the roof caves in, there is no way for you body to be "moved" in a position so it doesn't get crushed, because it is secured to the seat.

Does your car have the rollbar? If so, you just loop them around it. Go to here to see how:

Just had a ride in an RS at Sebring this past weekend. Driver had the same setup as pictured and sub belts as well.

While this is true in most cases, some harnesses are made to act like a normal three point seatbelt in a crash. I run a Scrothe Ralley 4 harness in my S4. While I only use it on the track, the harness has extra material built into the inboard side of the belt. In the even of an accident, the inboard side of the harness gives allowing about 12" of slack making it ac like a normal seatbelt so that you can "duck" out of the way of the roof.
