Turbo V RS
Joe,
Nothing personal, but the original tone of your post was really bad.
I am well aware of most of the cars in the Porsche lineup and pick the one that suited my needs. As "inferior" an engine that a 997S may have, I don't really care much as I have no intention to drive it forever. The GT3 offers no rear seats which is really not an option to a few 911 buyers, me including. My 997S is already low for some city driving, a lower front spoiler to me is a disadvantage. As good as a GT3 can be, it is not a car for every 911 buyers. I will eventually upgrade to a 911 Turbo, but not a GT3.

You are just like 99% of all Porsche owners. Better a Porsche than a Z car or a Subaru WRX....
Keep in mind we are on the GT page of 6 Speed...
I too was just like you, a 997S owner. I felt jilted when I found out the details on the 997S. I just wanted to make sure you knew. No hard feeling.
Many view the M96/M97 blocks as a disadvantage due to its lack of true dry sump and quality issues (e.g. RMS). There were a few articles in Excellence magazine reviewing if they were really that bad, and they concluded that they were NOT bad at all, being that, given the increased Porsche sales/production, they are actually more reliable than pre-996 engines and after many miles of driving, they are cheaper to repair and replace.
After your warranty expires and the engine gives out, which car and engine would you like to have? The $50k GT3 crate engine or the $10K 997S crate engine? They all require maintenance, after all...

$10K Vs $50K I wonder which is best.... Not what I want in a sports car power plant....
"Not that bad". "Cheaper to replace", That is what I base my sports car purchase on. I can see the headlines. "Porsche's New Power Plant, not bad and cheaper to replace than its predicesor"...Not for me...
Just think if the 997s had to go up against the Lambo, Ferrari or Z06. Not even in the same breath. Good thing we still have the Turbo and the GT3 to keep Porsche on the map....
As far as Excellence is concerned. It is an all "Porsche" Magazine.... What are they suppose to say. The truth. Not... No one would buy there Magazine. Sure it is a fine engine. Just not a typical Porsche engine....Not what sold me on the brand. They have been the leader in reliability and durability over 50 years. That is not the case anymore. At least not in there Street line up....
A Toyota Camry engine is also a great engine....I have never seen it on the racetrack... And I do not buy Camry's or any other Japanese street/race cars....
When they start racing the 997S engine, I will be happy to jump on board. Until then they are junk in my book....
Porsche has always raced a version of there production based engine. Not any more. Porsche has sold it's sole to the all mighty dollar.
I am fine with it until they ruin the GT3 or the Turbo. Then I will go elsewhere.
I read most of the posts (not all) but it does take a major change for a Turbo to stick with a GT3RS on track, I have done it and can now stick with them. I am now solid bushed throughout, Motons, adjustable Dog Links, GT3RS Toe Link, Solid Thrust Bushes and a hell of a lot more camber, lol. The GT3RS is such a quick car on track, it just carries speed in and out of corners and can brake a hell of a lot earlier due to it being nimble/lighter. Good luck in your choice!
We haven't heard from Turbo4ever, Forever. I most likely think he has now moved to Ferrari Chat because there are definately less models to worry about. I also say good luck with your choice. TT or GT3 and your going to be happy. Just one will make you happiest.
I still haven't received that Splitter coupon Joe

STEVO I don't think my GT3 RS will ever be for sale but if you go to https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=96515
I believe the one in the back right is for sale. Not the Cayenne...

By the way, do you know what are PSE and PTM, plus what are the differences between Turbo and Turbo S besides hp and PCCB?

S bodies are wider. S bodies have higher resale value and if you order an S you typically pay less than the equally equiped non S. I think PSE is sport exhaust. PTM is traction control. Porsche Traction Management. If you can find an S buy an S.
As I know there are only 2 bodies 997 and the Turbo S is not even out yet.
Yes I was talking about my 996 TT S cab. I don't actually know if the 997 has a S body yet. My focus these days has turned me away from my 996 and I just don't have any fun driving the thing. If the 997 does come out in a S body buy it. Like I said before I ordered my Turbo S and paid far less than the same Turbo with adds. 15-20k less. Some of the Turbo Cabs with PCCB's X50 adds were in the 160's 170's sticker. Wow too much.
Vincent I'll take that race from 0-20. Can we add 2 cones for fun. Less chance of a ticket.

Mark, you want to do a drive down to Sunset Porsche to check out the newly delivered R8?
