we do hand polish it or use Swissvax Cleaner Fluid prior to the wax so yes it does get polished the area taped is about 1/2 inch but there are the gaps so its probably about 2 cm of paint gets covered not much a a concern over protecting the rubber trim and edges.

hosing the engine is okay, your not trying to flood it you are just rinsing it down and dressing it back up. Of course you caution. Engines these days are sealed much better than prior to the 90's
