how does a e-gear work does it work the same as a tiptronic transmission? or is it like bmw's sequential gearbox

 

Umm I've never driven the bmw gear box, but it's definately not like a tip. E gear still has a clutch, but you just have no control over it.

It's an electronically actuated manual. The computer does all the clutch manipulation (which is why it sucks) and shift linkage actuation (which is why it's quick at speed).

BMW, Audi, et al, use DSG-type systems which are significantly different. E-gear has its roots in Ferrari's F1 system.

Tipsytronic is basically a slushbox with suggest-o-shift, totally different.
