Murc surging...

posted this on a couple of places. anybody here got any ideas?

so here is what my car is doing. first, its an '02 murc with about 10k miles.

1. it has the idle problem, but its not that bad, and i think the idle speed just needs to be turned up a bit

2. the real issue, is at maybe half throttle above 4k rpms it surges or hesitates. this is most pronounced in 1st or 2nd gear. below 4k it runs fine. and at WOT it runs very smoothly all the way til redline

so i read about cleaning the throttle bodies, so i took a look at them. they have some carbon buildup, but its really minimal. i will clean them and try it again, but i dont think this can be it. its very little carbon buildup. the butterflys seem to move smoothly. here are a couple of pics. the carbon buildup is the dark ring. but like i said, its really not much, just an easy wipe of my finger and its gone.

any other ideas? i'm going to try to get an appt with my dealer to raise my idle a bit (it's just kind of a pain for me to get to him), and i guess i'll have them resynch the throttle bodies, but has anybody had similar problems? like i said, you can drive this car all day long below 4k with no probs and with WOT blasts with no probs. it's really Just half throttle above 4k.

thanks

Mine has the same problem but idle is erratic. I did the same thing removed the throttles and cleaned them off. I think the final verdict is the dealer needs to recalibrate them....

When using the Lamborghini Ldas system you would see the difference in the checklist screen. There are also Potentiometers on the gas pedal that come out of adjustment, not saying that is the problem. But a good place to start.
This used to happen a lot on the 850i's when I was working on them, WOT was OK because everything is wide open but there would be a stumble caused by airflow imbalances due to the throttle bodies not being sync'd

Those throttle bodies at least from the picture are spotless, unless you have carbon building up somewhere else inside them then that is not the cause. What worries me is the second picture where you are not holding the throttle body open in any way. If they are still off the car use a set of feeler gauges to measure the opening between the two. That will give you an idea if at rest they are out of alignment mechanically.

I was at a meet recently and a guy started one up and it surged up and down. A person standing nearby said that is normal. All lamborghinis do that... lol

Yeah no...its not normal. You need the Lambo computer to check all the sensors and settings. You'll never find it otherwise. Trust me I found out the hard way. At 6k miles a throttle body was faulty.

Sounds like a spark issue.

Check your spark plugs and spark plug tubes for water.
The '02/'03 cars have coil pack issues that cause surging; check the coil packs for corrosion.
New battery may help.
