How good is the Gallardo?
Nobody mentioned that the Gallardo has a heavier steering feel, reduced turning radius and poor rear visibility. But definitely very exciting to drive, the vibration of the engine really can be felt crawling up your arms when you rev it. The handling and overall driving experience is very special. I would love to get one once the LP560 prices have dipped below the $150's. Now I know why the Ferrari and Porsche logos has a horse and the Lambo has a bull.
really old thread i started way back when...but was looking at some early model G's recently...
Here's the thing, I get the car is awesome, it looks PHENOMINAL, its visceral experience...but really looking at the interior...its NOT a great place to be aesthetically.
I mean its basically like VW jetta center Console or baseline Audi 4 series. Ya i know your paying for the v10 and the 4wd and the mechanics and the noise and "exotic ness". but for this kind of money...I mean is the porsche a better place to sit?
Its sort of the reverse panerama turbo s syndrome. porsche PTTS is hideous looking from the outside, but great interior to look at and BTTW (***** to the wall) fast and handles like a dream.
The gallardo looks fantastic outside, terible to look at inside, BTTW fast and handles great.

IMO you get the G (even an F car) first for the exterior looks and the engine sound. Yes, the looks and the engine are worth the darn premium those cars get. As for "practicality" that should be way on the bottom of the list when considering these cars. And I do think you can take it on a weekend blast, no less comfortable than a long ride in a P car, yet a hellva lot more alluring in Hamptons traffic (which for some people can translate into comfiness).
So what's stopping you...
I've had a GT3, R8 V10 and now my Lambo LP560 and love rhe Lambo the most. Gets way more attention and VIP treatment (valet front door parking ) and I love the look of the interior - better than other two. I also drove it home from Chicago to Dallas without any problem and I'm 50 years old! Based on what your concerns seem to be the R8V10 may be the best way to go. Its lightyears ahead of the P car.
Haha nice Jason...see thats why I had to get rid of it, since Im a married man these days
sound like this would be the perfect car for you, if you choose to drive it 1-3 times a month, because the attention you get, is a little too much from experiences that i know people have gone through. When you have a car like that, remember you cant do the regular things you use to because everyones watching, if you go to donut donuts, to get some coffee people are looking at you like what the hell....My boy had the craving for Mc Donald's one day and people surrounded the car like it was a car show going on outside of the mc Donald's parking lot.......The newer lambo are a lot more service friendly then the old ones, ever since they were taken over by Audi, it became more of a car you can drive without overheating issues and shop headaches. Just my .02 cents, never owned one, test drove one, its a sweet ride though...hope it helps you out a little... P.S GO FOR IT!!!!!!
I drove a Murcielago for a while and it was a Parade everywhere I went, sometimes even dangerous the kind of attention it got. I had no problems with maintenance but that all depends how far you live from your dealer.
Good luck

Yeah, When i had my orange gallardo people would point, stare, and there are easily more pictures of me driving the car floating around people's cell phones than I ever could snap on my own and it stayed in my garage. **** is a magnet for attention, so if you love that kind of stuff, buy a lambo. if you want a sports car that is more reliable, easier to drive, has a better steering feel, and yes, even faster in a straight line too buy a 911 Turbo. I had some major 2nd thoughts about "downgrading" back to a Porsche after I sold my G to malu (from a few posts back) but now that I've got my turbo setup just the way I like it, I've got no regrets.
I will say I do miss the clink clink noise of the gated shifter and the metallic shriek from the gallardo exhaust. But again, when the insane boost launches me into outer space in my TT I can't help but giggle like a little girl
My two cents, having owned a g and a turbo

My friend and I went to In-N-Out (he in his black TT Gallardo, and me in the orange Gallardo), and we got question after question about how much we make, what it costs, etc. Afterwards, he commented to me that he usually doesn't have that kind of attention, must be the color of my car. So yes, attention is a giant issue in the Skittles colors, especially if you are shy, but I love the car. The more subtle silver colors are good for blending in a bit more. I "could" drive a Gallardo every day because I love it so much. I bought my Gallardo from Matt with 6600 miles on it in February, and put about 6,500 miles on it since then, with me NOT trying to drive it, but I can't spend that kind of money, and not enjoy it. I don't see myself spending $100k+ on any other car, without it being a huge attention *****.
